Sound Quality
I think FM synthesis is great. Many of my favourite 80's bands (i.e. Madonna, Nik Kershaw, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Genesis etc etc) used them to great effect. The DX7 is capable of making the most amazing synth sounds...truly inspirational and they often work in great contrast to analog, VA and wavetable. I'm of the opinion that the DX sound is suitable for all genres of music. As already mentioned the DX7 is one of those synths that can either sound amazing (when well programmed) or totally shite (is poorly programmed). It is alot more unforgiving than analog subtractive synthesis. Also as one lst point...the output of the MKII FD is sublimely clear and crisp!
Very nicely built. Makes for a great budget controller as the keyaction is in fact very good. Keyaction is only bettered by the Virus KB, KC & TI My only concern would be how long the Floppy Disk drive works. Ive experienced a few odd glitches of trying to save and load banks and sometimes it messes up. Now this could be due to slightly imcompatible disks...or a more sinister component failure. But dont let this put you off as ive not heard of anyone else experienceing this.
General Comments
Everyone should own a DX7MKII. They were a significant improvement over the MKI's and are an all round great buy.
