Sound Quality
Here is the odd thing with this bass (and some of the "high end" features people preceive as "better") This bass has substantially weaker sound than it's bolt-on brothers. It is more midrangey, doesn't sustain longer (to my ear) but about the same, and the low throaty growl of the DR-5 just isn't maintained in the DR-5C. The DR-5C, it just sounds more "boring" and generic. It sounds more Ibanez style - because Ibanez likes to use maple bodies on their basses, it kills the character of the sound - just all snap and no growl or substance - they sound like toys. The sound of the DR-5C, it is half toy! The maple top and the neck-through design and the midrangey sound of the stacked coil pickups - so it is quieter who cares - it does not sound as good as the DR-5 Damnit! :)) All that being said, this bass sounds better than most. It is tight and versatile. I would put it's sound slightly below that of a Fender P Bass. You can't quite get the INXS or Led Zeppelin or Level-42 or other funk tones out of this thing, but you can from the DR-5. All hail the DR-5! LOL
Rock-solid :)
General Comments
Good workhorse classy looking bass. If you want tone though, get the DR-5, not the DR-5C
