Its real easy to play records and you are somehow fooling yourself into thinking you are highly skilled artists.

Or you are just lying to sell yourself.

You take all the money that used to be paid to people who can actually do something and love music enough to learn how to play it.

If you've got to start another freakin' thread about this, you could have at least posted something that hasn't already been said 50 times in 3 others.

There is no possible consensus to be reached among the people on this board in any of these arguments, a the only people still discussing it are those who haven't been watching it long enough to realize this.

Topic, please die and take all the hate with you... Please??????

I thought may be there was a dj who would come clean and say ,yes you could train a dog,...no.....a rat,.....no a cockroach to do what I do. Yes, an insect could push the "play"button" on my cd.player. Just smear some peanut butter on it and hell crawl over and do the rest.

Sorry, but I don't even see a conflict here. DJ/KJs do what they do where there isn't enough money for a Band. They're just filling that market, and the Bands are where there's more money.

DJs aren't taking Gigs from Musicians/Soundmen.

Why hate?

From a previous thread:

In a band, the DJ:

Makes noises that detract from my enjoyment of the performance.

Displaces a musician who might add to my enjoyment of the performance.

Gives the mixperson a distorted signal, which, after being turned down to a proper level, creeps up over the course of the night to the same distorted level.

In a club, the DJ:

Plays a bunch of crap I don't like, even if the club has live bands who play tunes I do like.

Displaces musicians who might add to my enjoyment of my evening out.

Plays the system too loud, with too much treble, and often distorted to boot.

I know a lot of bands/musicians who can't be replaced by a DJ/KJ. If any musician/band is displaced by a DJ/KJ, then obviously they're not providing a better service, eh!?

Hating a Dj is like hating someone for playing music.

Hating DJs is like hating someone because they can mix sound

Hating DJs is like hating your local club, bar for being to broke and too small to book your favorite band.

Hating DJs is like hating someone because they made people dance

Hating DJs is like hating someone for sharing their music collection.

Hating DJs is for boring and pretentious, old farts who have nothing better to do.

K. I assume you will be uploading a perfectly beatmatched DJ set up here soon, then?

So my question is: Why do people who hate DJs go to a DJ Booth forum? Seems somewhat like crashing a party, then saying you don't like the people at the party.

The vibe I get from most anti-DJ posts is they're posted by people who haven't really seen the full variation of styles and skills that DJs exhibit, from boring sequencing of other people's music to innovative ground-up remixes and arrangements. Judging all DJs because of some guy playing CDs at wedding seems similar to judging guitarists based on seeing some kid murder "Stairway to Heaven" at a Guitar Center.

That said, not all DJs are good at what they do. So what? The same could be said of drummers, guitarists, singers, etc.

Im a musician, and Ive been playing gutiar/paino/trumpet/bass for around 8 years now. And I love bands and people making music. But why are you moaning about DJ's???, the point of dj's is to hear some cool beats, have a feckn awsum time and make peeps dance till they drop!!

And now Im starting to dwell into the DJ side of things, just for one plain reason.... TO have FUN! And hold my own partys and play awsum music which I can remix myself, and have a total laugh!!

Because after a while the same music gets boring, and who really wants to hear death metal at a party????

So just quite yo jibber jabber, and get off pointless forums like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And go and play some beats OR go make some music!!!

Simple as.

djs dont consider themselves musicians

of course the skratch artists or "turntablists" do, but they actually are writing their own music so they ARE in fact musicians... if you make music your a musician regardless of how its made

if something can make sound... it can be used to make music

to say otherwise means you put boundaries on art

and as artists we should all understand that there is no such things as boundaries in art

sound is vibration... the same vibrations can come from strumming chords, chiming bells, playing wine glasses, the spoons, and yup even skratching records

it takes an EXTREME amount of talent/practice to kut with the likes of D Styles, Ricci Rucker, or Toadstyle for example

if you disagree your fooling yourself and have not a clue what you are talkin bout

ANYONE can learn to play an instrument

the REAL talent comes from people who are creative enough to take those techniques and write/create music that others enjoy

yup its just that simple

i create my own music with 1 turntable, skratch mixer, synths, FX and looper and yes i am a musician in every sense of the word

as far as djs go (people who mix other peoples music to get people to dance/enjoy whatever)... it DOES take talent to properly rock a party. song selection and beatmatching are skills that take time to master. and if your experience with djs has been bad, then its because your at the wrong parties/clubs. not to mention that its the dj that plays music that others write... so without the dj NOBODY WILL HEAR YOUR MUSIC!

so wheres the problem?

Just about anybody who has been in a road band has DJ prejudice, because of so many arrogant club DJ's who think bands open up for THEM. But I don't think those kind hang out here. This forum, I'm sure, consists of musicians- like several I know personally- who DJ and KJ on the side. I will graciously allow that there's nothing wrong with that.

But I got an idea from this thread- I'm gonna go to the Keyboard forum and troll about how I hate synths! At least until Gus hits me over the head with his keytar...
