Members 1tallbassguy
Iv'e got everything I need to DJ, even the talent, but all I have is classic rock music. Over 300 cd's. I may have some country and some oldies, but 95% classic rock. If not, Whats the easiest, least expensive, way to acquire dancve tunes etc. I dont know the music in that genre, so I really dont know what to look for. Anybody? Members ghowell
If you aren't really into the music, don't bother trying to get started spinning. Trying to play a style you are not into is like trying to play an instrument you hate the sound of. As far as classic rock goes, I assume you have venues in your area that play that style - check with management to see what they do for DJs....... Problem with a style like classic rock is that it's nearly impossible to differentiate yourself if you play that genre.
Members wysiwyg
Find a cover band in your area and volunteer (at least initially) to DJ as their opening act and between sets. If their songs have samples in them (e.g. Detroit Rock City has flashpots in the beginning and the car crash at the end) get a cheap sampler and plays those during their sets. You've just made yourself invaluable and got gigs at the same time. If you trainwreck, who cares. I think Ghowell's right, trying to get into dance / electronic music when you don't necessarily like it will lead you spend money on music that you would not have ordinarily and if you wind up hating DJing that you will have to get rid of the music. The easiest way to aquire dance tunes is to buy the music you like...before you know it, youll end up having a ton of music. I always get my records from dancerecords.com, every record can be previewed by mp3...really easy, cool site.
