Hey,

I'm a guitar player but was recently thinking that it would be cool to try my hand at DJing. I don't know a single thing about DJing. What all would I need to buy just to have a simple setup in my bedroom? the cheaper the better. Could you please give me links to all that things I would need. Thank you very much.

Wow, someone else who wants to be a DJ.......how original!!!!! ;-)

The Essential Tools to Being a DJ:

1. Creativity.

2. At least two sound sources with pitch control. These sound sources can be turntables, CD players, or even crusty old men with banjos. You need pitch control because you have to ensure that both sources are running at the same speed, or at speeds that are divisible. I'm not sure where the pitch control is on a crusty old man and frankly, I'm not sure I'd go around playing with random knobs.......

3. A mixer. You need something to actually mix the two sound sources so that the music never stops - unless #1 dictates that the music should stop.

4. Monitors. Monitor is just a fancy word to make musicians feel really cool. These are just speakers that sound good.

5. Music to play. I strongly hope this goes without saying. This is the one benefit to using crusty old men with banjos - they supply their own.

There are many other options though.........Let #1 and your finances dicate what you indulge in......

-More sound sources

-Headphones. These aren't exactly required when you first start out. Just keep both channels wide open and learn how to glue two tracks together.

One bit of advice about DJ'ing.......You will find that DJ'ing quickly becomes the world's most expensive hobby/addiction. It is very frustrating and it will take you ages before you're actually capable of rocking a party. If you're just looking for thrills, take up heavy drugs instead - in the long run, a heroin addiction will be far cheaper and only marginally more harmful. Drugs will kill you, DJ'ing will only make you broke, deaf, and thoroughly incoherent to those who aren't addicted as well........

Peace
