this is the only recording of me I have...it was after two vocal lessons that basically just gave me a song choice for a recital piece at the start of my first semester as a music student....I've gotten a little better, and a much bigger range...but I would very much enjoy any critiques you guys and gals could give me!

I've been classified as a leggiero tenor, and have a range of G2-G5, that said, I haven't quite nailed my second passagio at A4 yet, so I'm only comfortable going up to the B4 at current :)...this piece goes up to a G4

be brutally honest, please and thank you!

I just checked out your clip. To be honest, I don't think you're actually using your true tone. Your voice sounds "pushed down" and overly dark. I'm suspecting that you're tensing up at the tongue or depressing the root of the tongue. I don't think you should be too quick to classify your voice. It actually takes years of training in order for a true leggiero tenor voice to reveal itself. Even though many texts indicate that A4 is the second passagio for a leggiero tenor, I don't think its a reliable indicator. A4 is a trouble note for most male voices in general. Its better to judge it based on vocal timbre instead.

Thank you for your input! I didn't actually classify myself as a leggiero, I thought I was dramatic or lyric. My vocal instructor did, and I trust her word pretty religiously. She's sung with some big names (pavarotti and placido domingo, off hand), and seems very knowledgeable. That said, I have a new instructor this year, so I will get a second opinion.

I can definitely see your point about "true" tone, and being overly dark. I'm fairly new to singing classically, and still need a lot of work!

Thank you again for your input :)
