Members altviola
Hey - I'm a complete beginner, but be as critical as need be! Thanks http://soundcloud.com/modulos/pink-floyd-wish-you-were-here
Members gruven65
Your pitch seems okay. It's hard to tell without a backing track. It sounds to me like you're singing too much in your throat. Too breathy. Try to make your singing voice feel the same to you as when you're talking; more like a strong speaking voice.
Members ido1957
Are you running the original track in the background/headphones? Can you add music and post another copy?
Members Masklin
You are off pitch a whole lot, and you, like gruven65 said, use too much breath. Also, your throat is a bit constricted. But, you said you were a complete beginner, and as such, you're not the least bit worse off than the majority of singers were as newbies. You'll get there if you want it badly, no question. Now, to fix the problems: Pitch - don't use headphones as you sing. Make sure that you can hum a note in unison with another instrument. If you can't do this, you need to practise until you nail it. I don't know how to practise it though, unless you have a friend or family member who can tell you if you're flat or sharp (lower or higher than where you should be). Breathy sound - First, you could try singing without a backing track or background song. If that doesn't fix it, it's just practise practise practise. What might work is imitating singers who sing without or with very little accompaniment. Tight throat - When you sing, you should always feel like your throat is (almost?) COMPLETELY devoid of tension or strain or effort. Imagine moving your voice from your throat to your face, where your resonance chambers are mostly situated. Or, try singing while yawning. Good luck! Members altviola
Thanks for the feedback guys. Here, I added a backtrack and sang less breathy: http://soundcloud.com/modulos/pink-floyd-wish-you-wereThe backtrack helped me stay in tune as well... I think. Except the "cold comfort for change" lyric - I sang the wrong notes haha. Any better?
Members Masklin
Perhaps less breathy, but the remaining problems still stand. Also, you weren't more off pitch on 'cold comfort for change' than you were anywhere else. You just sang it differently.
Members staticsound
For an absolute beginner, not bad. But to echo what everybody has said, work on pitch and support.
Members fireaero
I can't critique someone who's better than me at singing. Sorry.
