Members Masklin
I get the stuff about overtones, and how falsetto turns into head voice when you resonate properly etc. But, I'm not sure about how to know when I'm doing it right? Also, how do I keep my twang as I ascend in pitch? That's the super-hardest part, although resonating in high chest is impossible for me atm. Members staticsound
When you're doing that buzzy hum scale, you should feel compression in the mask area. Try to hold onto that compression when opening up into a vowel.
Members Jersey Jack
Also, how do I keep my twang as I ascend in pitch? That's the super-hardest part, although resonating in high chest is impossible for me atm. I actually have more trouble descending. Nice video static! Members triq
My favorite part has got to be when you put the mic to your nose. Classic. =P
Moderators davie Posted February 29, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 29, 2012 Great video! I've been using a fair amount of twang in my singing lately too. lolBeen trying to get a more aggressive/rock sound.
Members staticsound
What?...nobody liked my dig at Axl, lol. Seriously though, thanks guys...I try to keep them somewhat entertaining @Jersey - I have the same problem when I'm in a high head voice note and descend down back into chest voice keeping the compression. Members grace_slick
I am really looking forward to watching this vid (tomorrow)...for the mic-nose action and also I NEED to learn how to use twang for goodness SAKE!!!!! I am totally twang-challenged! I can do the quack duck thing, I can do the nasal Bob Dylan impersonations, but...not when actually singing PROPERLY! Members Masklin
Sometimes I get depressed because I can't make my voice soar effortlessly. I'm quite sure it's about proper placement, but that's how far I get, because I can't consciously place the notes correctly without excessive tension. To get a feel for what I mean, listen intently on 'never too soon' at 00:30 and 'I played them for you' at 2:14 in this song: [video=youtube;RTElDZGhZ-M] Or 'I could see the city light' at 0:38 in this: [video=youtube;GvOtgs_dhmU] Or the fifth at 1:55 (it's not english so I figured specifying the word wouldn't help you) in this song: [video=youtube;uuLBmu61UNY] I would sell my soul to the devil if I could do what these three singers do at the given times specified. Members grace_slick
I so know what you mean about not being able to get that soaring, effortless strength and resonant quality on certain parts of songs you REALLY want to... I have issues with this song (and many others, but this one has a specific cut off point between when I am fine and when I just...stop. Because I have no idea HOW to sing it to sound like the real Grace Slick does) [video=youtube;wwnMYZS1hSc] At 30-31 seconds in at "got no mind of your OWN" (that word) and then again on "GO" at 37 seconds...and then it just goes completely craptastic around 40 seconds and onward. SIGH. I lose it, feel strained and tense and cannot get any kind of soar.
Members staticsound
The first video said "won't play in your country"....as far as the other two, it's what I keep saying resonance and placement. You can here the distinct "buzz", especially in that last video. Your vid wont play either Gracie?
Members grace_slick
What the hell!?!?!?! What about this one here? (I just hope the time reference points I originally put match up to this one, since I can't check it right now to make sure) [video=youtube;CycEi9dkNgo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CycEi9dkNgo
Members Masklin
But you don't (try to) sound soaring like these singers in your video. How then can we trust you that soaring and buzzing is the same thing? ;-) I changed the first video, hopefully it's avail in the US!
