Moderators davie Posted February 15, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 15, 2012 Hey guys, hope you all had a good Valentine's Day. If not, then this song is dedicated to you. lol. This is just a short demo version. I've been working on this song the past few days. And it's definitely been a while since I posted a clip. lol. Anyways, check it out and tell me what you think! Link: http://soundcloud.com/davieq/in-february-short-demo-version ugh.. I think Soundcloud is having errors for my link for some odd reason. Anyway, if that link doesn't work then try this one: http://soundcloud.com/davieq

Members reddude333
I like the soft music that goes with it and you have a very nice voice.
Moderators davie Posted February 16, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks reddude - And I'm not sure why. But soundcloud is being a pain in the butt with my sound clip. Btw, If the link doesn't work, then try the 2nd link. I might need to re-upload it later!
Members grace_slick
Ooh, this is SO nice...(I had to use the 2nd link) Not sure about the guitar bit when it comes in...I'd either start with that and keep it going all the way through, like it does, and lose the beginining bit...or keep the beginning bit but somehow change the guitar bit maybe in some way...to just bring it in during the chorus or 2nd part of the first verse type of thing, for impact, you know? Nice voice, man, as always. Yes...I DEFINITELY like the piano bit with the swirly string background better than the guitar-y part...and your high notes in that part towards the middle / end are really nice. The vocal there seems to be coming in a tiny bit early... Love that song. Keep working on it!!
Moderators davie Posted February 16, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks Gracie I just re-uploaded a slightly altered version. I also tried to tweak the timing a bit too. (I blame computer latency ) So give it another listen. I'm planning to have drums in the final version too!! BTW, I managed to fix the link. Members grace_slick
Yay! Yeah, latency sucks. Will listen again tomorrow

Members chamcham
Latency is the Achilles heel of USB. From a technical standpoint, Firewire beats USB hands down in terms of latency. Even if USB has faster transfer speed, it can't match the low latency of Firewire. That's why firewire is better for external recording interfaces (unless you have serious cash and can afford an optical Lightpipe interface). Firewire (and now Thunderbolt) is one of the main reasons why Macs are better for audio recording. They are very low latency and built-in.
Moderators davie Posted February 17, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted February 17, 2012 Yeah good point. Though I think its mainly my cheap computer that is affecting it. I'm using an old IBM Thinkpad laptop to record. Maybe if I had one of those new gaming computers.
Members ido1957
Nice ! - Voice sounds really good here. I would take the guitars down a notch cause you're being drowned out. Ending is good balance wise.
Members staticsound
Nice dude! I dig the piano and the string thing you got going on...I don't know about the guitar though. If you're putting drums in the final version, that guitar part would prob sit better...IMO
Moderators davie Posted February 17, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted February 17, 2012 Thanks for your input guys! It means a lot. Still pretty new to the whole mixing thing (especially with a whole array of instruments). The earlier versions had a drum loop on it. It seemed to fit, but it was too repetitive and I'm not that experienced with arranging drum parts (also didn't want to butcher the transitions between parts), so I kept them out for now. I'll let my friend who plays drums have a listen and see what he thinks. I'm thinking I should definitely revamp the guitar parts, its sounding dangerously too "coldplay" (a friend bought this to my attention ). Anyway, its still a work in progress, I kinda rushed it for Valentine's day. lol I'll definitely put up a more finished product later on!

Members SergioLeone
Wow your singing is really nice. I like the tone, you sing all the notes well. Dude, what's your practice routine like? What has it been like? And when did you start practicing singing?
Moderators davie Posted February 18, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted February 18, 2012 Thanks Sergio! My practice routine is hard to describe. It changes all the time. lol. But a lot of the exercises revolve around developing head voice, the passaggio and breath support. I'm actually using an old school classical technique. lol. I've always sang at some point, like when I was a little kid and after high school. But I've only started to train seriously this past year. Members ThisIsJewels
Davie, that was awesome! What microphone are you using? Also, I saw that your were going to have drums in the final part, which leads me to ask about the piano part. Are you playing it?
Moderators davie Posted February 20, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted February 20, 2012 Thanks Jewels. The microphone I'm using is the Studio Projects B1. And I also played the piano part. I wrote, recorded all the instruments, and mixed the song myself.

Members partlycloudy
That was really good! One thing though, the guitars are drowning your voice out lol.
Moderators davie Posted March 6, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted March 6, 2012 Thanks cloudy. Guitars drowning out of my voice.. that was the whole point Nah lol. It's just really hard to mix accurately with my speakers. Had swap back and forth between my speakers and headphones. Wasn't really sure about the balance I was going for. The song is on hiatus atm. I'll save it for NEXT February . lol Nah.. jk jk. I'll work on again soon. Its just so exhausting trying to come up with all the music parts myself!!
