i know you match the Bpms on a record wen u mix them, but do u ever , put the bpm back to their normal speed? I guess what im asking is, do u play a set of all the same beat, or do u match the beat, then slowly speed up or slow down the beat? clarity on this topic would be much apreciated.

thanks in advance

No, if it sounds like it shouldn't be at the speed you're mixing it at then it shouldn't be at that speed. There aren't many (repetitive beat) songs that sound off when not played at the normal speed so it's probably ok to play it a bit faster/slower, that said, it's you're choice and preference as to what the music you play sounds like in a set.

I generally match the one coming in to the one thats on, but I would say that I do change the 'set' bpm as the set goes on. Usually it gets slightly faster as the set progresses, but with some tracks I like to slow it down a bit and then build it back up later.

good advice here.

every record is different, and every set is different. you gotta go with what works for you at a given time. I have a tendency to play almost all my records pitched up at least 3%, but that's just me, and the vibe I'm trying to achieve. As long as your mixes don't clash, it's ALL good. NO TRAINWRECKiNG!!! :)

I think that lots of songs can sound considerably better or worse depending on the speed at which they're played. Some songs can get too tight when they're played too fast, and others will sound sluggish if they're too slow. It's not a huge thing, but lots of sounds, especially voices, can change a lot over the course of that 16% pitch range. I also think record speed is a consideration in the mix itself too. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I've always thought that mixes between two songs of similar bpm sounded musically better than those between songs that are really different in speed.
