Members OpiateGW Posted July 5, 2011 Members Share Posted July 5, 2011 So I recorded a condensed version of Simple Man to dance with my mom to at my wedding reception in May. I recorded a full length one too but it was too long for a groom w/mom dance at 5 plus minutes. A few of my friends requested it so I threw it on soundclick and figured I'd share here. I wasn't attempting to go note for note with the Shinedown version but that is what it is closest to. Anyway it's not perfect but it served its purpose well. My only major critique was that I rasped up the choruses too much, but I was on antibiotics trying to head off bronchitis so I give myself a pass . Well, since I'm an OCD kind of guy I guess I can, lol I think with a little more practice knowing the song inside and out you can iron out the subtleties when you sometimes sing too fast for the tempo. I don't have a good setup for recording in my small apartment at the moment but I've thought about putting up a youtube page or something. I do play guitar, but my buddy Cortney is actually playing on this recording as I wanted to concentrate on vocals. He's got his own original band called Old Stranger, check them out here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Old-Stranger/120091201357786 I've been in so many bands as a guitarist I've been trying to focus on singing the past few years. The last original band I was in I didn't even tell the guys I played guitar until after I joined and even then they had two guitarists so I stayed out of that part of the writing. My goal is to focus on writing solo and form a band but my songwriting leaves a lot to be desired lol. I can write melodies and riffs but good lyrics are tough for me.
