Does anybody here spin anything by the likes of Autechre, Múm, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin? I try to get this style of electronic music on vinyl when i can and soon i will have the critical mass to mix. I generally mix house in the conventional fasion, and I wonder if anyone has ideas on how IDM would be mixed, possibly along with other types like downtempo, hiphop, experimental, or even jazz.

I use clicky IDM for beats, ambient IDM for the tunes...and then throw in random crap, and if possible lots of effects. Like, there was mix I heard with DirtStyles/Sealed Breaks playing over the top of 'Theme from Dune' by Brian Eno, it was awesome. I was messing around last night, Gone Gone Gone by Miles Davis sounds cool if played backwards, at 50% speed, with lots of reverb, and Squarepusher playing quietly over the top. Honestly, try it.

Generally IDM goes with pretty much anything.

I like experimenting with weird stuff too. I got an eric johnson (Rock guitar instrunmentals) record for a buck used, and it sounds pretty cool at different speeds over some ambient stuff. I even like layering the police over the top during a house set.
