Members DukeOfBoom
I've been wondering about this so i decided to do some research, comparing 2 popular modern r&b vocalists in today's age. John Legend vs Bruno Mars John Legend is a baritone. Bruno Mars is a tenor. [video=youtube;rYCKkmM0Tu8] [video=youtube;SR6iYWJxHqs] Legend is channeling the old dudes like Bill Withers and Otis Redding (to a degree). Mars is channeling Michael Jackson. I personally think that Bruno Mars just sings way too high during the entire length of all his songs. I like, you know, the occassional high note or line in a chorus, but when the verse is high, these freakin high notes go straight to my nerves and I find them very annoying. I can listen to an entire album of a singer of the likes of John Legend, because it doesn't get on my nerves. I can listen to about one song of someone who sings as consistently high as Mars. But I think IMO the perfect use for a tenor is in collaborations. I like Mars in that McCoy Billionaire song where he does the higher chorus contrasted with the lower rapped verse. That works well. But when 5, 10, 15, 60 minutes of tenor screeching, that's too much for the Boom.
