What are your singing goals?

I was musing to myself while I ate my cereal this morning, and was thinking of my goals in terms of singing.

Goal 1 (short term) - GET A F**KING PROPER SINGING LESSON IN REAL LIFE, at least one, to try and get the rock sound out of me. The proper shouting, yelling, belting, metal-type sounding voice (not heavy metal, just a more Grace Slick twang kind of sound)

Goal 2 (medium term) - MAYBE try busking. Maybe. I say maybe because this is up to my partner too. And if I can reproduce the sound I get on my mic at home in a live setting. I also say maybe because this isn't imperative to my long term goal, which is...

Goal 3 (long term) - Continue with my own original songs, improve my vocal tone as I go, and get those songs out there. I want world domination.

So what're your goals? :thu:

First off, What's busking??

I mainly just want to improve and keep improving. I suppose my longer term goal would be to have 1000s of fans. Probably 2000 at best? Haha But that to me sounds pretty darn cool. I suppose the richer side to my "goal" would be to express myself musically in such a way that I would no longer be hindered by my tiny range and lack of sturdy vocal control. To not necessarily be able to hit these notes that some people were talking about in other threads but be able to sing it my way and do it in a very satisfying creative manner. That would just be awesome. I haven't written songs in about 5-6 years so yes I would like to start writing again. My goal is a bit backwards compared to yours. I want to create a fanbase first and then shoot out some originals. This seems to be the Youtube trend and it makes sense to me. However I have also seen some people have success right off with their originals.

No particular goal. Singing is fun and awesome, 's why I do it.

"The aim and final end of all music should be none other than [...] the refreshment of the soul."

- J.S. Bach

Whatever Bach says is of course not necessarily true or sensible, but I happen to agree in this case.

I've started a new band. This one is more pop than I've been involved with than before. My goal is to rein in some of my bad habits and stick to {censored} that works. Rather than experiment too much with either my vocals or song choice. Don't get me wrong though, it'll still kick ass just more in a way that's more Pop.

I want to strengthen my head voice and blending so that I can just float up to D5 or so without straining, and still sound full. I can go higher than that now but I don't think it would sound good in a band setting. Oh, and also stay on pitch, not sound flat.

I have songs now where I think I can work in more head voice but I'm pretty self conscious about it, and usually the ambient noise just overwhelms me.

Overall I just want to be an asset to the band, and be able to jump to a better group and not feel like my singing is holding me (or the band) back. When I'm really feeling paranoid, I think the guys are afraid to tell me my singing sucks because I might cry or something.

1) To increase my vocal range

2) To be able to sing comfortably without strain through my entire range

3) To have a more even tone from low to high

and.. only after I accomplish the first 3

4) Be able to sing any dynamic (soft or loud) regardless of which note I'm singing

Goals?

1-I want to get a voice coach so that I'll actually know what I'm doing.

2-Strengthen my head voice and break so I can get to at least D5 easily. I'll be able to sing most tenor songs with that I hope, will certainly be able to sing Josh Groban songs.

3-Be able to sing February Song by Josh Groban

4-Sing at my parents' 50th anniversary

5-Get signed to a small label with a great song writer and gain limited recognition.

I’m gonna have problems with blanking if I ever sing live. Even for all my own songs I’ve written myself and also songs I know like the back of my hand, I still need to have the lyrics up on the screen in front of me or I blank. Half the time I don’t even look at ‘em, but they’re just a security blanket, you know? Lol.

We most definitely know.^_^.

It's weird too, you know the lyrics. You could sing without backing even and go on stage its like________

Its just comforting even if you don't look at them.

Yeah, cause it's that tiny split second every now and then when you get distracted for a while, and then you come back and realise OH MY GOD, WHAT'S THE NEXT LINE!? And if you've got it on the screen, even just getting a glimpse of SOMETHING lyric-related puts it back in your mind again. Cause obviously when singing, even the briefest of pauses while you remember the next word ruins everything.
