I Suck At Singing

I think the key is to have a great song written that is designed for singing: It has to have a key/chord progression that suits your style and range, it needs to make you feel good to sing it too, You've got to have the room in the song to emote: to really reach out with your feelings to the audience and to the song itself...and lastly it needs to be a story or a personal lesson or experience in some way, just making {censored} up to make rhymes is not what I would consider a good song...or easy to sing.

If you cant make a good recording of the song before you sing it, it's not going to get any better by singing over it...

To sing well, you have to be able to listen well, and to do that, you have to be able to at least like what you are hearing...

First off you need some more love for yourself. Judging from the posts you're currently quite bitter which is not a healthy state of mind for singing at your best.

After that it might be a good idea to work on pitch accuracy by means of using some kind of direct feedback setup while imitating the notes on your guitars?

Have you gone to a singing coach? A single lesson could be enough to get you started or fix your problem compeltely if you're lucky.

I sing outta tune

Someone mentioned Playstation Singstar, you sing along with it and it has graphs on screen that show if you are singing sharp or flat. Perhaps you know someone that has a Playstation and you can try it out, see if it helps.

I recommend you pick up and read Roger Love's book Set Your Voice Free - How To Get The Singing Or Speaking Voice You Want . It's a great, awesome, wonderful book that I'm sooo glad that I found out about. It doesn't teach you everything about singing, but it's helped me improve a lot. It comes with vocal warm up/exercises on CD. It may be able to help you with your singing issues.

I also heard that The Singer's Companion: A Guide to Improving Your Voice and Performance is a great book.

I have that book and a few others. If you are going to buy a book the best ones to buy are 'Complete Vocal Technique' by Cathrine Sadolin and 'Singing and the Actor' by Gillyanne Kayes. The quality of information provided in those two books is far superior and also the forum and singing discussion there is much more practical and useful.

Have you read The Singer's Companion by Brent Monahan, and if so, is it a good book or do you have any complaints about it? I've read some good comments about it online.

Is this the link to the forum that you are referring to?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Yep that's it. I have scoured the web for the best singing information and there's alot of forums where the board owner spruiks their products and their friends products and its all a nice pat on the back for each other. CVT is about singing and only singing.

No, haven't seen this one to be honest so no comment. Good thing about the books I listed is they're written by two very different people with different backgrounds but both explain things in a way that interleaves. In any book you get holes in your knowledge because some things are better explained than others but both of these work together perfectly to explain the key things like support.

Oh, ok, good. I've read a comment from someone saying that this book was better than Roger Love's book so I went and bought it. I hope it's good.
