Might I hurt myself?

You folks probably get this a lot- newbs who come by and post something they record despite having zero training/experience- but I know I'm terrible. I'm a guy, and I've taught myself the words (I'd never call it teaching myself to sing, since I haven't) to several songs by performers I enjoy. The problem? They're all women who really work their vocal chords- Neko Case, Feist, Anne Vriend, Kate Voegele- and I enjoy emulating the sounds they make.

I use box.net.

I think that you have a pleasant voice. I think that you sound a little tired and close to but not always in key. Vocal training might improve pitch, breathing and delivery (energy). You might watch some vocal lesson videos on You Tube, continue making recordings and check for improvement.

If your throat hurts or your voice feels rough the next day then you might be hurting yourself. I gradually warmup my voice for about a hour in the morning, then work on songs and duplicating other voices. I can't just push my voice without singing exercises first; my throat does not move the way that I want.
