Members Stratman Tigers
Or rather, do I sound like anyone? Or remind you of anyone in terms of vocalization or delivery? I'm untrained and learning how to sing so I can do my own acoustic side project (outside of the band I'm in in which I just play guitar). I'm not purposely trying to sound like anyone, this is just me singing and stuff. :poke: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8367726http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8111703
Members grace_slick
Hmm...you know what's weird and makes no sense and I hope you don't take offence? lol. Your singing voice sounds to me what Matthew Broderick would sound like if he were to sing. lol. (I like him, so to me that's not a bad thing necessarily) Anyway...I quite like your songs, though they're a bit...sort of HAPPY to me. I guess that's just my own specific taste. I tend to go for more weird, interesting, darker (sometimes) songs. In terms of your voice...it's nice, but not 100% in tune a lot of the time. You seem to sort of...either you're doing songs that don't really demonstrate a lot of precisely-sung notes, or your actual vocal technique is a bit off in terms of hitting each note right ON, you know? I like the beginning idea of Conquer with the spoken voice from a movie of some sort, but I find it didn't sort of flow that well into the music part of the song. I like When Winter Comes a lot. Like the chords in that. It's a bit melancholy to me. I just re-read your post and you're just learning to sing now? In that case, you're doing really well. You'd really benefit from some lessons. Even just online ones.
Members Stratman Tigers
Yeah, the Soundclick is a mix of actual band and solo stuff, lately almost all solo though. When Winter Comes is still a WIP, I haven't really written lyrics to it, but its definitely melancholy. I get a retrospective feeling when I hear it. And yeah, I've only seriously tried to sing in the last six months.
Members grace_slick
Good for you. I'd go with some lessons if you intend to be the singer in the band.
Members JetCityMatt
Every chance you get take a full deep breath so your lungs are always full of air so you don't sound like you're struggling because you're running out of air. Maybe take some attention away from playing (since you can probably do it on auto pilot) and direct more concious attention to having a substantial amount of air on tap that can never run out. Members fjs1229
your voice sounds kinda like cat stevens to me. I dig him, so there ya go!
Members hamster139
Wow, you do sound like Mathew Broderick. You have a nasal quality when you go higher, its not bad... it may be your niche. If you dont already know how to breathe correctly, there are lotsa threads here that go over proper breathing techniques. They are quite easy to learn. Members grace_slick
LMAO@hamster, I thought I was insane for hearing the M Broderick thing. But yes, Cat Stevens. That's the singing equivalent to M Broderick's talking voice for me I think. And that's definitely not a bad thing.
Members Stratman Tigers
Thanks guys I recorded these two today, with some breathing tips in mind. Both songs I wrote intended to be harder rocking and full band, but the lack of a band has forced me to strip it down to the acoustic. I think my vocals are kind of improving... http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8375011 http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8375010
