day of a show advice?

Are there some tricks to keep your vocals fresh for a show? The day before? The day of?

I usually practice the day before with the band. Not full scale, but I definitely sing. Then I drink lots of water.

The day of, we have a small acoustic session in the morning and just pack the van the rest of the time unitl we leave (for a 8 PM show).

I feel that my voice starts to go a couple hours before the show.

Is it nerves? Am I singing too much before the show?

I have heard that tea helps? But then again, I see Chris Cornell drinking diet coke right before a show. I don't know.

Som help please?

:idk:

Some things that have helped me are I try not to sing the day of until right before going on just to warm my voice up, and it's usually only singing the higher parts of our songs. I also drink lots of water throughout the day and try to drink something warm right before the show, and I don't eat dinner until after I've played. If I'm feeling nervous before a show, I also chew gum before going on to keep the saliva flowing. Dunno if that helps, but it works for me.

I like to take a decongestant a couple hours before to clear that up. That may just be me though. Also, a recommendation from Confederate Railroad which I find to be useful was a glass of warm pineapple juice. Sounds kinda strange but it works well for me and it tastes good. I like to warm up on some nice low notes, gradually working a little higher, nothing crazy. Sometimes I just hum it. Refraining from talking could help, especially if you're at a job with multiple bands. Trying to talk over music can wreak havoc on your voice.

I try not to sing the day before a show if I can help it.

try not to talk for most of the day leading up to showtime, or try to talk softly. I find that I talk a little bit too low for my voice and if I talk too much, my throat gets kinda sore.

Talking in general will not help the situation, so the best way IMO is to just limit that.

great point from Kev on the talking over loud music, that will kill you.

make sure you warm up properly, I would say not any sooner than an hour from showtime. start by humming, then increase volume and notes.
