Members G-A-Nator
I REALLY want to learn how to "scream sing" in the style of Disciple. I have looked online and no one really teaches you how to do it without straining your voice. I have tried literally screaming and was hoarse for a couple of days so, if any metal-heads can help me out, it would be appreciated greatly! A tutorial on how to *scream sing* as you put it may not bode well. If and (when) you ruin your voice, don't hold the tutor responsible for incidental damages that may occur... This type of singing? is not natural, I think. I've sounded like Linkin park once and while I did not strain my voice, my throat felt horrible. I've sounded like Linkin park once and while I did not strain my voice, my throat felt horrible. It's plenty natural. There are certainly wrong ways to do it that will damage your voice, but there is also a proper way to do it that's perfectly healthy. It's also been around a lot longer than the more recent metal and -core stuff, just that these styles I guess do it to more of an extreme. Same thing, taken a bit further. Don't ask me how to do it though. I found it by accident and am far from being perfect with it.

Members micmike
MOST importantly, after learning the technique... Just let go man and allow your lungs/throat/mouth to make whatever sound you want to express. Sounds very hippy, but if your pushing or forcing or trying you'll do damage. Look at all the vocal acrobats out there. None of the sounds they do look like very hard work - except maybe the high clean notes. And warm up really well before launching into it. As soon as you feel discomfort or tension, stop and rest. There are muscles at work that need to strengthen.
Members smross
I will you this advice. I was playing guitar/singing in a post hardcore band for a while. At first I was just doing regular singing, and then we decided that I would try some screaming too. I did the youtube thing and started teaching myself to scream. Before long I was just doing lead vocals and wasn't playing guitar anymore. One evening at a party I was screaming and I burst a vein in my throat. I was in complete hell for a month(tons of bleeding in my throat, and congealed blood in my sinuses.) My advice to you is to be careful. Even if you think you know what you are doing, you can really screw up your voice. Since then I refuse to do lots of screaming anymore.

Members jmorgan_2008
Melissa Cross is the answer man. I couldn't scream at all when I first started. When I tried, it was like a horror movie. It sounded terrible, and was very painful. I carefully went over Melissa Cross's "The Zen of Screaming" and recieved great results man. Give it a try. It's 100% worth the time. Feel free to check out my track on the myspace link in my sig. The first song, "Night to Remember" has screaming in it. I'm not in any way trying to brag or build myself up. I still have a long way to go. I'm letting you know there's hope for anyone willing to put in the time and effort. I hope this helps!
