I just lost a wonderful friend, and the music world lost an amazingly talented singer-songwriter. Some of you may remember the heavy metal band from the 70s, Crimson Glory. Midnight, the original lead singer was my student for over 4 years, and my friend for much longer. He died in Sarasota, FL today.

Like so many talented musicians he was unable to kick the alcohol addiction which began so early in his life. Midnight helped me give up drinking almost 20 years ago when I was heavily addicted. Sadly, he couldn't beat his own problems. I believe I'd be dead today if I hadn't listened to friends like Midnight, and to my heart. I make this statement to perhaps lead some musicians out there to listen to their friends and their hearts and make moves to give that stuff up if there are ANY signs of problems. Thanks for indulging me.

Al, I am so sorry to hear this. I know he was a great friend to you, and you have my sincere condolences. :(

I myself was a fan of his, and of Crimson Glory, and think he was a wonderful, talented singer. It is tragic that alcohol is what got him, but I am at least grateful that you avoided the same fate.

I will listen to some Crimson Glory tonight in his memory. :(

When I lived in Jacksonville, one of my bandmates was a big Crimson Glory fan, and when he made a mix CD of stuff for me, there were a bunch of their songs on there - they were great. I'm really sorry for your loss, Al. I hope his loved ones find peace.

Did you know their guitarist, Jon Drenning, was born in Jax? I don't think he lived here very long, though.

Crimson Glory wrote one of my most favorite songs of all time. If you are into mystical, metaphysical, or esoteric lyrics - there is nobody that I've found that can touch them.

Transcendence

The snow was gently falling

A white mist filled the air

I hear the cold wind calling

Something's waiting there

I stand alone in silence

upon the mountain high

I'm waiting for the spirits

Eyes upon the sky

They whisper in my visions

They haunt me in my dreams

They've shown me worlds that shimmer

and peaceful fields of green

Try to find you sky

Your world within yourself

In death I've found the answer

In death I've found the answer

In death I live again

Fear not the reaper's blade

It does not mean the end

It never really ends
