Challenge: show off your amazing range

Alrighty then. This is different than my generic "post your video clips" thread.

Let's hear all these 4 and 5 octave wonders we seem to have on the forum show their stuff! :thu:

Me, I have only a little over a 3 octave range, without going falsetto, which isn't much compared to what some others on the forum are claiming, but I am certainly willing to get the ball rolling and post videos to prove what I've got.

So here's the challenge: post your estimated range, then post one or more videos/soundclips to prove what you've got. It could be as simple as:

3 octaves, C2-C5

followed by one or two clips that contain real examples of you singing notes at either extreme of your range.

I will post a couple of my own videos, coming soon.

I don't have any recordings of me hitting my highest note or lowest note. I also don't have clips, but just some songs. You can take a wild guess as to what approximately my vocal range is

Here is one that I wrote that is sung pretty low...

I'm So Sorry

Here are 2 HORRIBLE, but high Soundgarden cover songs...feel bad even posting these...

Spoonman

The Day I Tried To Live

I can go quite a bit lower than in "I'm So Sorry"...but I doubt I would ever use it for a solo singing anyway.

However, I think the Soundgarden songs (especially The Day I Tried...) I am pretty much capped at. I can't tell you what "notes" I can sing...because I'm music illiterate. You can hear that I don't know much about pitch when you listen to these songs either...none of them really have good pitch in them.

I would definitely love to increase my higher range to hit some of those crazy Chris Cornell notes...anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm not going to lie Nick, I cringed at the Soundgarden covers. The deeper parts were good but the higher parts...eh...

No worries though. I liked your original one.

I've been working on some Soundgarden covers, and I can nail most of Cornell's parts. Not nearly as well as him, obviously, but I can sing them nonetheless. The only one I could never do fully was Say Hello 2 Heaven. That part after the 3rd verse where he's going REALLY high with the chorus...my voice cracks and is silent at that point.

I've been working on Slaves and Bulldozers recently. It really shows off his diverse range.

lol...I figured someone would say that. Actually, I thought the low part was good also, but when I listened back it was way out of key....I was pretty surprised because I thought when I was singing the low it was right...oopps :p

Obviously those songs were recorded at a time when I had zero control over my voice...I still struggle with control of my voice though.

Last I was told is that I'm actually a bass singer, which is definitely not good for rock or any type of pop music. That bass range is really kind of pointless, however, I think I can control it the best. But I'm trying to sound more natural in the baritone and tenor range.

Can you post any of your Soundgarden covers? I'd love to hear them.

3+ Octaves, A1 - C5 (excluding falsetto)

These first two examples are for the upper end of my non-falsetto range, hitting that C5.

Carry On, Wayward Son

In the second song, I'm doing all the vocals including BG vox.

I'll edit this thread soon to post an example of me hitting at least a C2 or lower.

ok, in guitar terms...

a1 = open a string? c2= 3rd fret?

d2 = open d string?

g2 = open g?

b2= open b? c3 = 1st fret?

e3=open e string? b4 = 7th fret?
c4=8th fret, 1st string?

Guitar starts at an E2, so your open A string is an A2 and the same string third fret is a C3.

On a good day, I'd say a C(Vocal illiterate so um...8th fret of the high E string). At least in full voice. Non-falsetto half voice or chest voice or whatever...um...I dunno, whatever the backup notes are after the key change in Livin' on a Prayer. :lol::facepalm:

And low? I dunno, I've sung Johnny Cash before. :lol:

The BG Vox makes a big difference for you SS. Sounded great.

So there's a real device called the "BG Vox"? :lol:

"BG vox" was my internet shorthand for "background vocals". The backgrounds on the Kansas track are just multi-tracked harmonies, and "au natural". I think I used in the neighborhood of 6 tracks in total for the harmonies, just to give it that thickness.

No harmonizers or auto-tuners were harmed during the making of this track. :lol:

Anyway, thanks to everyone for the kind words. :thu:

Good to hear.

I don't believe in using any of that stuff either.

I guess I'm around 3 or so, but only 2 are really useable - D3-D5 is where i spend most of my time singing. E5 I can get a few times on a good day.

If i counted falsetto (but why would i ever sing in falsetto :lol:) and all the bass notes i can hit (but never do because i always sound corny :poke:) I guess it would maybe be around 3 though.
