Members chris_chrys
anyone know where I can get Final scratch and does anyone recommend it now that audiogalaxy etc has shut down (meaning we can't download free music). Actually, now that i'm on the subject, does anyone know where I can download music - what's the best site now?

Members 6ftabovsealevel
I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who's used that finalscratch thing. I don't download a lot of music or anything (stupid LAN firewall ) but it's certainly interesting technology.
Members djsynrgy
it's not intended for downloaded music really. at least not globally downloaded music. downloaded music doesn't maintain the audible frequencies that the original music does. It's more intended to be for prouder/DJs who have their own music on their computer, or who have exclusive tracks that aren't yet available on vinyl. (same reason for a CD turntable, it's alot easier to burn a track you JUST finished to a CD than it is to get it pressed onto vinyl, unless you can afford the $8-13k it costs for a vinyl cutting machine.) I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be using it for PART of a set, not a whole set, because the final scratch records wear out just like your regular records do. I don't mean to blow him up, cause I'm not a big fan of his music, but I gotta say that if Richie Hawtin says it works perfectly, I trust him. Screw that, I'm pretty sure I read DJ Craze endorse it. I'm sure it works perfectly, but I wouldn't reccomend spinning mp3s through a good sounsystem against real records cause people will be able to tell the difference in sound. Members 6ftabovsealevel
Yeah, Craze uses it too. If it works well enough for him, chances are it'll work well enough for any of us. Richie Hawtin is really good and all, but something like that would really be tested by a scratch dj...
Members goodear
I work at C.S.L. in San Diego and we've had a demo version for at least 4 months. We use and demo it everyday, all day long with the same 2 original records and they still work fine. It's an amazing program!!! The coolest thing about it is that it's exactly like playing records. There is no latency at all. You can scratch like a mo fo and still no latency. And it also doesn't take any of the skill out of it. If your time coded record skips, then your mp3 will also skip. There's more info at www.calsound.com.
