  1. No offence to Doc Jeffrey - these days I actually really enjoy his posts for the excellent photos and level of detail provided - but I've been a member here for a number of years and I remember a time when he was one of the culprits responsible for negative posts and baiting other users, especially about lesser brands and country of origin. In that sense, I think he is worthy of praise for starting this confessional/thread as it shows a change of position. However, the negativity that pervades this forum is nothing new. Some of the names have changed but since we can all post here anonymously it will continue until the end of time. I hate to name names here and hope that Doc Jeffrey doesn't take offence. This is just how I remember it. You folks helped enlighten me to the virtues of cool gear that didn't say Gibson on the headstock. No offense taken.
  2. People don't give a {censored} about playing. Shopping and name calling is where it's at, hippie! Hippie? I don't even have a medical weed card--and I think I'm the only one in Colorado who can't buy the chronic legally.
  3. I stayed away for a few months because I was busy actually creating some music and playing my guitars, but the discussions here have gotten pretty meaningless. Mine included. I honestly don't think that there are many people here who care about their playing or their tone. Threads that actually have something interesting about gear get pushed to page two in favor of "Korean guitars are...; Chinese guitars are..; Why would anyone buy ..." Yes, I'm a member so I'm part of the problem. So what's the solution? Crank up your amp and plug in your guitar and tell us how you got some amazing tone by doing something unexpected or unscripted. Or try routing your guitar into two amps sitting back to back and tell us what happens. Or run your signal through six bixonic expandoras and see what ghosts materialize (I hear that Billy Gibbons' ghost will appear--YES I know he's still alive--allegedly!). Rock on, and tell us how you do it. I'll keep posting my {censored}ty music no matter what happens :poke:
  4. Going to see those guys on Thursday. Bummer about the stolen guitars. But, seriously, where can you fence a Broadcaster without being noticed?
  5. One? That's BLASPHEMY! Your crucifixion date is set for this Friday.
  6. eh, a wife-beating, child-abandoning hypocrite might not be the best example either, doc. {censored} me! No wonder she fell for Romo and Mayer and then got fat when she was dumped. She never had a chance.
  7. fwiw, from what i've read about joe simpson ... he probably dug it. a lot. that dude is {censored}ED up. Uh oh! Bad rhetorical question then. Does she have a grandfather who isn't a wanking perv?
  8. I'm a bit surprised with some of the responses. I don't think that being a total self-absorbed narcissist automatically happens to talented artists who become popular. The whole "it comes with the territory" argument is weak. SRV didn't do it; neither did MOST of the guitarists we collectively seem admire around here (Hendrix, Gillmour, etc.). To me, the most disgusting thing is the people he hurt with his comments. How would you feel if you were Jessica Simpson's dad? She did absolutely nothing to deserve having her {censored} be compared to crack cocaine by some asshole pop artist with SRV tattooed to his arm. I don't find him funny or clever. I find him to be narcissistic to the point of being a truly histrionic personality. And I think character and class do matter. The problem is that we've become accustomed to people like Mayer--they are everywhere--in sports, movies, politics, and music. Throughout the history of rock music though, guitarists like Rory Gallagher, George Harrison, Mike Campbell, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix, Slash, Chuck Berry, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Warren Haynes etc. have proven to the world that guitar players are some of the coolest, humblest, and most grateful [to their fans] and gracious people you could ever hope to meet. They also respect women, at least to the point where they don't talk about their pussies to the press. To me, John Mayer is Fred Durst with marginally more talent. I'll bet the same people defending Mayer's comments thought Durst was cool at one time too. Mayer's headed in the same direction, and he knows it, thus the tearful apology. For those of you who defend him, just answer me this question: What would you think if he {censored}ed your daughter and then told millions of people around the world the details about how great her {censored} was and how much he'd pay for it. And be honest. Look familiar?
  9. I'm surprised no one brought up Stryper! Soldiers under command! They are so 1988.
  10. Some of you have such archaic notions about what church is...it's embarrassing. Every church with more than 100 members around here has a full praise band and a lot of them play what would pass for classic rock. Some do full on metal and a few lean toward punk. So get off your lazy asses and find yourself a church. Maybe you could join the band!
  11. and... John on how many girls he's screwed since Aniston: "I'm going to say four or five. No more. But even if I said 12, that's a reasonable number. So is 15. Here's the thing: I get less ass now than I did when I was in a local band. Because now I don't like jumping through hoops." John on how he's upping his famewhore game in 2010: "From now on I
  12. In his interview with Playboy: When asked if black women try to get with him, John answered: "I don't think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I've got a Benetton heart and a {censored}in' David Duke cock. I'm going to start dating separately from my dick." And about that "hood pass," John explained it like this: "Someone asked me the other day, 'What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?' And by the way, it
  13. If you think that police have the time or the interest in getting involved in stuff like this, think again. They are too busy posing as 13 year old girls in chat rooms trying to reel in internet predators
  14. Any shop that is out to make a profit has to be able to make money on the item that they are buying. (Watch "Pawn Stars" to see how it's done). Thus, the seemingly lowball offers. It seems that the going rate for musical instruments at places like this is about 1/2 of their blue book values.
  15. Gibson dropped the prices on those, and I think I know why. A lot of SG Standards were cut from one piece of mahogany. In more recent years, some standards had 90% one piece bodies with a small splice of mahogany added near the volume/tone controls so it wasn't too noticeable. In both cases, a fairly large chunk of mahogany was needed and in large quantities (Gibson sells more SG's than any other model). The current SG Standards that I see at Guitar Center and Spotlight here in Fort Collins have two piece bodies joined in the middle. Frankly, they look great because unlike the small splices, Gibson actually matches the two pieces (probably flitch matched) quite well. I really like the OP's new Standard. It looks really nice, and I'll bet it sounds amazing. Enjoy!
  16. Is it better stuff than yours? A Warp 7 50 watt amp that is tits! Also, an Epi LP 100 (Korean--pretty sweet!). A Rocktron talk box, a Dime wah, an old acoustic nylon beater, and a Crate 4 x 12 cab that I donated 4 Eminence Legends for. Cables, on/off switches, etc. Some decent goodies, for sure.
  17. When my son lived at home, his band practiced at our place. They left a bunch of stuff in my basement. It's been two years. Is it mine yet?
  18. Jeff Lynne Stephen Stills Alison Robertson You figure it out.
  19. They are both fantastic amps, no question. It's a personal preference thing. You have to decide.
  20. They are both LOUD amps, but only you can decide. Their tonal signatures are completely different and most players have pretty strong preferences. Listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn and some early Brad Paisley for a decent comparison.
  21. Most other pros would have finished the set. Bono had the fans help him sing when he was almost voiceless during the Vertigo tour. Steven Tyler was completely out of sorts at the Denver show two weeks ago. He just backed off and let the band do the work. Cloverdale (thanks for supplying the name) came out screaming like a {censored}ing banshee. He should have taken a different approach. He sounded fine. Suck it up and sing. I still think he's a pretty boy {censored}. He was visibly agitated about not being the headliner. He made a couple of sarcastic comments about having to play second chair to Priest. "We've never seen this place in the daylight..." Whitesnake represents everything I hated about their particular Loverboy genre of music in the 80's. That's why so many of us welcomed Soundgarden, Nirvana and Pearl Jam with open arms.
  22. We saw Priest at Red Rocks last night and it was an absolute killer show. They are doing the entire British Steel album along with the usual hits. Only one song from Nostradamus (title song). Glen Tipton was top notch as usual. Whitesnake was also on the card. Honestly, I couldn't name you a single song that they've done and when I got a look at the lead singer, pretty boy {censored}, I remembered why I ignored them in the first place. They got through 5 songs and the singer said that his voice hurt and they left the stage in shame. Pussies. I felt bad for their fans who attended the show. Rob Halford said, "That's what you get with a Las Vegas band," but then he went on to say what a great person the singer was and how bad he felt, blah blah blah. We sat in the 8th row. Gorgeous night at Red Rocks. Not even a drop of rain. I think that's a first for me in a very long time. By the way, PopEvil opened. Michigan band. Great stuff. They were in awe of getting to play at Red Rocks "A dream come true..." Excellent, young, hungry band with a lot of passion.
