    Doping...

Ted Weber offers the option to dope or not to dope when ordering his speakers (at least for some of them). What are the pros and cons of? Also, here's another question for anyone who knows, concerning speaker impedance. Suppose your amp has speaker outs for 4, 8, and 16-ohms. You have a variety of speakers. Which do you choose? I've heard to run it at 16-ohms, if possible. True or not? The simplified theory being that 4 and 8 would not use the full tonal capabilities of your amp. And is any difference even noticeable to human ears?
  3. Bogner has a 150-watt version of the Uber-Ultra - KT88's.
  4. Old school. These became hot when sludge metal doods started using them. 150-watts. And according to the article, there is a reissue coming. โ€œEvery meeting we have, we talk about the Model Tโ€: Sunn confirms a reissue of its most iconic amp is in the works โ€“ and it might be more affordable than you think | Guitar World
  5. I'm into porn...deep and loud. Amp porn๐Ÿ˜. So, having a morning hard-on, post pics, anything over 100-watts...or 100-watts if yours is small๐Ÿ˜’.๐Ÿ˜‰ Out of the blue, off the top of my head, 120-watts. Leviathan โ€“ RedSeven Amplification | Boutique Amplifiers and Devices (redseven-amplification.com) They made ONE, just one, in this format (special order). I'll bet this goes for a lot of money someday (you know, some crazy-rich Asian (like the movie) into The Joker).
  6. Oh, right, those. When Radiohead started using them they became collectable. I saw one go for four grand a while back on Reverb. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฃ (JK)
  7. Not the most watts, but 'up there'. And expensive! PRICE: Starting at 9,999.99 Bludotone Amp Works - Hi - Plains Drifter
  8. I have a Silvertone I bought in a pawn shop decades ago. I like it. But one cheap guitar is enough...for me.
  9. I have a 50th anniversary Strat that came with 'noiseless' pickups - samarium cobalt, or whatever. Anyway, they sucked. I went to SD and Fralin. So much better.
  10. The only real LP is a Gibson LP. ๐Ÿ˜ก BTW, I just read that Gibson is now making great guitars again, after slacking off for a few decades. I don't know how true that is. This red one is mine, but may sell and get a basic black one that I can actually play without worrying about wear. 'Red' is a 1988 Custom Showcase Edition, and $3,800 will pry it from my cold, dead hands...not including shipping๐Ÿ˜‰.
  11. I almost left this place multiple times due to harsh moderation in Political Party. Anton doesn't run it like that. He's fair and friendly. By comparison, the old days were like a Southern Baptist convention. Political Party wasn't/isn't even visible to non-members, so why was there a desire to sanitize it in every conceivable way? When I first came to HC I was blown away by the rank humor. It was so entertaining, in a smart way. That's what I miss here. The crowd was younger back then.
  12. Yeah, that one is a lot better. ๐Ÿ™„ Copied from: There is currently 0 user online. 0 members and 0 guests. ๐Ÿคฃ
  13. Ragin' Cajun? Isn't that Eminence? I have a Reignmaker, from Eminence. They don't make them anymore, but they can be very useful. On the magnet there is a dial. Turn it one way and it's at full efficiency. Turn it the other way to reduce efficiency. (edit) I found my notes: Reignmaker sensitivity ranges from 92.5-98.7 dB. The speaker sounds good too, so I don't understand why they apparently didn't sell.
  14. I just bought a 1986 JCM 800 2203. Yeah, it's loud alright. I'm working on acquiring a 4x12. When I do, I'll post a 'new amp' thread. I also ordered a 50-watt Fryette Power Station, to make playing it survivable.
  15. Last summer I used the furniture mix that I learned in woodworking school. 1/3 polyurethane 1/3 turpentine 1/3 linseed oil It took weeks to cure but I'm happy with the feel and finish - the finish being not glossy, but smooth and natural feeling. I wouldn't apply this kind of finish unless it was summer or you had a warm house.
  16. Have a listen to this. I think I could play this one all day long:
  17. Is Budda still in business? I haven't heard about them in a long time. Did Peavey buy Budda? London Power Scaling is another thing I haven't heard of lately. It was all the rage a long time ago. What happened?
  18. That's why it's nice to self-educate yourself on electronics. Some things are reasonable to test at home, some aren't. I try to avoid labor costs whenever possible, no matter what the product. I even sent an amp to Gerald Weber in Texas once. $600 later it came back little better than it was. I don't know if I should blame him or not. This was a boutique amp that I'm sure he had no reference to the tone of. He may have thought he did his job. Nope, not even close. This is one reason I try to buy hand-wired amps - simpler, easier to fix, and hope you have a good tech nearby.
  19. Oh, gods, there are so many of them (bad amps). I'm super picky about amplifiers. I like about five percent of the ones I try, and it's not just about tone. For example, I can't stand chrome face plates, like the Marshall Jubilee, or some Bogner Ecstacy's.
  20. I don't know what they are worth, but new MESA 4x12's are more than $1,200. Marshalls are around $1,900. Mesa/Boogie Road King 4x12" 300-watt Angled Extension Cabinet | Sweetwater
  21. That's it, blame it on the wallet. ๐Ÿ˜‚
  22. I'm in the process of selling. Then I'll buy, quality over quantity. (Edit: I already started buying )(wife: )(Me: ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜˜) Selling/sold: MESA Lone Star 100-watt head (sounds awesome in 10-watt Tweed mode)(needs a bias-ad mod to really cook in 50/100 watt modes). Benson Monarch 10-watt head (has gone up in value from $1,800 to nearly $3,000!)(My modded Princeton does this at nearly one-third the cost) Ceriatone Express 30-watt head (Trainwreck clone)(breaks up too early)(disappointment - you get what you pay for) Blu Guitar Amp1 Iridium (Eh. Great for travel, not so great at home.) Guitars selling: Suhr Strat-like(?); Gibson 1988 LP Custom; 1880's Martin Parlor; 60th Anniversary American Strat; and a $hi^ ton of pedals. Keeping: Marshall 1986 JCM 800 2203, with matching 4x12, both with beautiful faded-to-brown basketweave, in very good condition. (I use the cab for everything but the Princeton - all going through a KHE switcher and a Fryette 50-watt Power Station)(pedals: TCE tuner, Hyper Luminal compressor, Wampler Euphoria; in loop on Fryette: Keeley Dark Side, Keeley Dynatrem, TCE Flashback, Neunaber Immerse reverb, TCE Wiretap riff recorder. ENGL Fireball 100 (breathes fire๐Ÿ˜‰)(I live in the country๐Ÿ˜). I prefer the clean channel cranked over the high gain channel. Fender 65 Princeton reissue, Sweetwater special edition 12-inch, tweed (mods include MercMag output tranny with 8 and 16-ohm taps - stock Princeton has just 8, and a mod-kit from Fromel Amps in Seattle). Bedrock 1200 50-watt head (best amp I ever owned, when it was new; not now๐Ÿ˜ข). Just ordered a completely wired JCM 800 50-watt turret board to replace the PCB mess. It will be called and labelled a Bedrock-Marshall. Soldano Mini (eh) Yamaha THR (eh) Cabs: Marshall 4x12; MESA 2x12; ENGL 2x12; Home-made 2x12; Port City OS 1x12. Buying: Another ENGL 2x12 cab. I'm swapping out the two Vintage 30's for a WGS12L and a Celestion G12H-30 Anniversary. To use two cabs spaced out a bit. May sell the Marshall if I like this setup. Amplified Nation Dumble clone, not sure which. They are all good. Wish list: Magnatone Panoramic Stereo head. Late 70's Marshall JMP master volume 50-watt, two input. To sell the JCM if. Friedman Phil X (or possibly a Bogner Helios). But not if I get the Marshall first. Either a Dr. Z Z-Wreck or a Matchless HC-30.
