  1. Got something guitar-related that you need to sell? Post it here!

All spam outside of this thread will be deleted.

    THE RULES:

    1) All spam outside of this thread will be deleted.

    2) Only one post per item per person. If you "update" your price and bump your post, YOU HAVE TO DELETE YOUR ORIGINAL POST.

    3) If you are a repeat offender you will be given a temp ban.

    4) Haggling and questions do not belong in this thread. If you have a question, send a PM to the person.

    5) Do not "quote" somebodies post with their huge photos in it. If you think they have nice gear, send them a PM.

    6) Do not criticize the price someone chooses to set for their gear. It's their gear, they can sell it for whatever they want. If the price is wrong, it won't sell, not your problem, let them worry about it.

    7) Only music related gear should be posted for sale here. If you have video games, iPods, or lawn mowers, post those in the classifieds forum, not here.

  2. Can't really see why you don't own it yet.

I realize, it's from Korea but sure does look made well to me.

Mine is Japanese. There's nothing, I repeat NOTHING that couldn't be easily upgraded that wouldn't put this guitar on a par with Gibsons, never mind Epiphones. The wood and craftsmanship are gorgeous.

  4. Post all hot deals here, but no SPAM. SPAM is for the other thread. This is for insane blow out deals that you find online and want to share with your fellow GASsers.

If you see a blowout on Music123 on Les Pauls for $99, yes, this is where you post that info, etc.

You can post eBay links you see too, but the eBay links have to be Buy It Nows, not something that is at $1 and still has 10 days left in the auction.

    The RULES:

    1) NO CRAIGSLIST POSTS IN THIS THREAD!

    2) NO WHINING ABOUT DISCUSSIONS IN THE THREAD!

Last month we tried a separate discussion thread, but it's just too cumbersome to have a separate thread, so there won't be one anymore.

From my observations, the majority of people like to talk about the deals in order to decide if they want to buy something. There's typically just a few loud members constantly complaining about the discussions. As long as the discussions are related to the item in question, then the discussion can stay in this thread. If someone starts whining and causes a big flame war about "too much talking" they are going to get a temp ban. Everybody participating in any flame war in this thread will get a temp ban. Just behave yourselves! There is more to life than this internet thready thing.

    3) All new deals must be posted in RED! Or at least the TITLE OF THE DEAL.

That will help people be able to filter though the pages of discussion and the actual deal posts will pop right out.

    4) Your personal SPAM is not allowed in this thread. If you post SPAM in here, you will get a temp ban. Then no one will be able to buy your crappy gear.

I repeat - NO SPAM in this thread. That means NO TRADES, NO OFFERS, no selling or getting rid of your own stuff. There's one SPAM thread already for that stuff.

And as, alway: there is no whining, bitching, complaining or tantrums allowed in this thread. This thread is only for discussing the hot deals. If you missed a hot deal or you hate Musicians Friend, post about it in an outside thread.

If you buy something in the hot deals thread, and you love it, or hate it, or it bit you in the ass, then post a seperate thread about it, this thread ain't for heated discussion.

  5. I believe I responded to you earlier request about how we are the "SAME". If I didn't answer to you liking maybe you can clarify the question? I thought you were referring to your post count, correct? Frets may ask what you are asked to do as a moderator? I assume you do more than just a regular poster.

Also I am think you guys have me wrong. All I am saying is that a moderator is always a moderator. Yes he can post and have opinions, but he is still a moderator. I am not saying that Frets has done anything wrong.

Besides having the power of life and death, I sweep the place and make sure to put the cat out at night.

Basically, I maintain order while at the same time not spoiling the enjoyment of the majority of folks who come here. I try to maintain civility in discourse, remove spammers and OT threads. But, I get help for that from you guys. I can't read every thread. Most of my cleanup work is done in response to what you guys report. It's actually more of a shared responsibility. Probably the best analogy would be a public servant. I process your request for a license. Ask dog owners to clean up after their pets, etc. I can ban people but certainly they can request a super mod to bail them if they think I've been unfair.

My vote is equal to your vote in all thinks forum connected. If I'm asked my opinion, it will be because of my experience, not my position.

  6. Explain how it does not only take one thing to be different to be considered different and I will concede.

I am not different in the manner to which you are alluding which is to say that I can still post my opinions and can be chastised for breaking the rules. I am not here to be your roll model. I have to abide by the same rules that I ask you to abide by.

  7. The concept of relative worth of guitars is a good topic as long as it is explored without acrimony and disrespect. At the heart of the matter are the materials wood, wire and strings. Their cost can be relative. The cost of overhead can be relative. The cost of skillsmanship can be relative. Some luthiers are artists while some are craftsmen.

We assign value based on our experience of worth. I come from a humble background. I believe in making an honest product and charging an honest price. I have the town shoemaker mentality. I probably wouldn't make shoes for the king and his court.

But that's very personal. I also don't begrudge the king his taste in finery, unless his taste in finery is overly supported by my taxes.

Here is a non political health care view. Ted Kennedy represented a state that boasts some of the finest hospitals and physicians in the country. But when push came to shove, he went to Duke in North Carolina. Are the doctors/hospitals for his ailment better at Duke than in Massachusetts? Did they cost more or less than the doctors/hospitals in Massachusetts? I don't know. But absent any other information, if I had what Ted Kennedy had should I wish I went to Duke?

On a wider scale, hospitals charge all over the place for their services. The cost of a procedure can vary widely. A procedure that costs $5000 at one hospital can cost $20,000 in another. Is the care that much worse at the hospital charging $5000 or that much better at the hospital charging $20,000?

I can say without reservation that if I had $2500 to lay down on a guitar, I'd get a Soloway before going near anything PRS or Gibson. That's a personal decision by me.

But we do have to remember that at the heart of the matter are simple materials. You will probably find much of the same materials in a $600 guitar as you would in a $1500 guitar. Why you would choose to pay more or less will be a consequence of your opinion of the product.

  8. Its looks just like that but has mock aligator skin tolex on top and headstock.

I fell in love with it at the store and played it for a while through a really nice Bogner. My wife and I were getting a divorce and she was buying me out of the house but she came up short. She knew I wanted that guitar so she bought it for me on credit to make up the amount she came up short(obviously it was friendly split). Long story short we never got a divorce, but if that didn't happen believe me I never would have bought a $2,500 guitar. This is purely a hobbie to me.

That was like my dream guitar, but when I got it home and it kinda of fell short to my $700 Fender Toronado (of course I had it refretted and put Burstbucker pros in it which bumped it up over $1000) I was a little bummed.

I think I didn't play around with it enough. I was always grabbing my Tele or Fender. Then I thought what the hell everybody keeps praising these GFS pickups maybe that will spark my interest in the guitar again, but actually just getting on this forum and having some people telling me I was crazy made me take another look at the Duesenberg. After fiddling with the pickup height and really playing it I am starting to fall in love with it.

And that's my story thanks for listening. Also' thanks for giving me the most posts for any thread I ever started.

You know, all's well that ends well for sure. I'm glad you guys figured a way to make it work. Kindred spirits don't fall out of the sky too often. I've been through a divorce and while I feel it was ultimately a good thing for both of us, it was very difficult.
