  2. I feel pretty confident that if some one called or wrote Taxi and said, "I have a progressive metal / polka band made up of 50 year olds, will Taxi have a lot of opportunities for me?" I have a feeling you would get an pretty honest answer. __________________ Oh, crap, Ronan, way to kill my lifelong dream!
  3. So...why doesn't Taxi specify exactly what their labels want and specify that they do not want old blues tunes... Because they don't know what a client wants until they ask for it. A client may well want an original blues music score or song to be used in a documentary or film or jingle, but they won't know that until they get a client needing it. I don't think you really get how Taxi works. I don't use it because my stuff isn't commercial, but like Ronan said, they do exactly what they say they do. And frankly, anyone who signs up for any service without investigating what they sell and to whom, and what the track record of success is, deserves to be separated from their money, because they're too stupid to hang onto it and use it where it would do more good. With all the info available at your fingertips, most musicians these days who get hosed are victims of their own laziness and ignorance. I've never been in a business where more people jumping into it have less of a clue as to how it works. There is no excuse in this day and age to be uninformed.
  4. Has anyone ever joined this sight to record music, submit ans really get paid by your song entries? I've been reading it on line and would like some feedback. Thanks It isn't a scam, but you pay 300 dollars a year (I think that's what it is) and an additional 5 dollars a song submission fee. They are a placement company, much like what a publisher does, so your material needs to be fairly commercial in nature to get any results. Some people who write really commercial stuff have had great results. Other folks, not so much.
  5. I just don't want him to prevent the three of us from playing the song in whatever form we want, cause that wouldn't be fair. I'm pretty sure he can not keep you from playing any of the songs you co-wrote, and in fact, if you recorded them and released the CD or made downloads available, he can't keep anyone from playing them or from recording them as long as the writers are paid a mechanical royalty. You're worried about nothing.
  6. Yes the vid has been done by a mobile phone...so the quality is really bad...Then why on God's green earth put it up for other people to hear? It's like a carpenter who builds a house that's falling down and asking other builders to critique it. If you really want honest criticism, put up some decent recordings so guys here can constructively help you. I won't cap on you because you're young and I admire your willingness to get in the game and ask others what they think. Just give them something to work with. Consider this one of your first lessons in the music biz!
  7. You can't copyright 'guitar riffs'. You can copyright lyrics and melody. You can also copyright a recording itself.
  8. You can do the "poor man's copyright" in the interim -- put a CD of the work in a sealed envelope and mail it to yourself. Leave it sealed, and the postmark is your evidence of the date of mailing. Totally false. What's to stop anyone from mailing unsealed envelopes to themselves and then putting whatever they want in them after the fact?

Aside from this, the website link you posted is giving you all the reasons why a poor man's copyright WILL NOT work and CAN BE faked. "Poor Man' s copyright" should be called "fool's copyright", since only a fool would put the rights to their work in such a dubious idea.

Before or after mastering makes no difference unless you are radically altering the recording in some way, since mastering doesn't change the content of the recording.
