  1. Beautiful guitar! Sorry, I could go either way on the pickup rings; they both look fine to me. Great job!
  2. I think it's one of those things that you just need to keep doing in order to see returns. Maybe watch some youtube videos that detail how to play popular licks? Maybe try humming some leads over the backing track, and then figuring them out on the guitar? Maybe find a chord generator that allows you to voice chords in multiple positions?
  3. I like a ribbon mic or small diaphragm condenser pointed at the 12th fret, and another small diaphragm condenser pointed down at the guitar from over my left shoulder, each recorded onto their own track so I can process them separately.
  4. Whatever you're comfortable playing along with. I use Cakewalk Sonar which allows me to emphasize the first beat by making it louder than the other beats. It also allows me to change which sounds the metronome uses. I generally only use the metronome long enough to get a first track recorded (guitar or piano), then I mute it.
  5. Wow, that's a great price! Congrats and happy birthday!
  6. Why bother to bond emotionally with something that you know is going to live 2 years? There are better pets out there that live a bit longer and are able to show affection in ways that rodents can't.
  7. It's a rodent, not meant to be pet. Feed it to a snake (another animal not meant to be a pet).
  8. An add for https://www.jshopline.com came across my Facebook page today, so I decided to take a look. Any idea how these folks can sell name brand guitars for under $100?
  9. Jungleland - Born to Run Nights in White Satin - Days of Future Passed The Royal Scam - The Royal Scam
  10. Yeah I saw that Spotify news; not sure how I feel about it. TapeOp did a nice interview with the founders of Soundbetter a few months ago. I've been using Soundbetter for a few years now; I got lucky because the first drummer I tried is just great; he's now played on 7 of my songs. I also got lucky when I hired a Trumpet/Trombone player to do a horn section for me and he was just fantastic.
  11. I had an Alesis SR-16 back in the 1990s that was fun and was a great learning tool for learning how to sequence drums. I used it on 4 track demos. Never really loved the sounds. Today I use SI Drum Track VSTi which came with Cakewalk Sonar X2, but pretty much just as a guide. I found a drummer on Soundbetter.com that I use to replace my drum parts. There's really nothing quite like a real drummer playing in a real room.
  12. I think there are a lot of things nowadays that make it hard for original rock bands to attract crowds, including: 1) rock music isn't really that popular anymore. 2) most people don't like listening to songs they don't know. 3) rock bands are loud and live bands don't have volume knobs. 4) the older you get, the less people want to go out at night. The good news is that it's easier than ever to record and release original material.
  13. I think the digital vs. analog thing may have something to do with it, but I don't fully understand the science behind it. I think analog tape adds a bit of "heft" that digital has come closer to in the last few years, but maybe still isn't quite there yet. I equate digital recording to CGI in films. Has it improved dramatically since its infancy? Yes. Is it perfect? No.
  14. Awesome work BA! How does it sound now with the new pickup? Will this be your new main axe for gigging?
  15. I agree with this. I thought you were agreeing with Jasaoke's lack of support for intellectual rights which is a bit off-base.
  16. I agree about the cleans sounding very close. I think the fact that the Monoprice has the better reverb is a real key, especially for the clean channel. Having an output jack is another key. I wonder if I could sneak one into the house w/o wifey noticing?
  17. It's a nice sounding amp with a lot of range. I never knew Brett Favre played guitar.
  18. Sunset Grill is fretless bass played by Pino Palladino.
  19. I've thought about starting a band where all of the transitions between songs were brilliant, but all of the songs suck. Couldn't find anybody interested in joining so I scrapped the idea. You can use it if you want, just make sure I get to see a video or hear some audio of your performance.
  20. Not important at all; your average listener doesn't notice. Now if you play too many songs with very similar tempos, that could be an issue.
  21. I generally outsource my drum tracks; I found a drummer on Soundbetter.com that does a great job on my songs and he plays and tracks his kit very well for my needs. But mixing drums can be challenging. Looking for opinions on the best way to pan a real drum kit when mixing drums. where do you pan the overheads and the room mics when mixing drums?
