Nobody has ever disputed your right to your opinion and your right to state it. If anything, it's always been welcomed and encouraged. The only point being made is the manner in which you state your opinion.
  2. Originally posted by where02190 Wel Lee, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, just as I am. If you continue to read my posts I suggest you learn more patience and tolerance, or use the ignore function. That choice is entirely up to you, but if you continue to read my posts, don't come whining to me about how I express my opinions. You have a choice to read them or not. There's the rub... I too am entitled to express my opinion. Since you refered to another poster's post as the "worst advise" then I guess we're also commenting on each other's post's. So I'll continue to whine when you speak in a condesending fashion, as I'm entitled to my opinion and all.

We are also free to read or not read whatever we choose. If my posts upset you that much I suggest you use the ignore function. FYI, IMHO stands for in my humble opinion, but I suspect you know that. Can't get much more humble than that. Yes Where, you can get a lot more humble than that and IMHO you should. The heat of other

More importantly, have fun and stop worrying too much about htis kinda stuff.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then Where responded with... "This is about the worst advise regarding quality recording anyone could give. Where, you also use the term IMHO a lot. Come on man and truly get some humility. This is getting old. I know you do not seem to care if people take offense to you but I, and it seems others, really do wish you'd learn to back off. You have some of the best advice I've read and I use it all the time. Thanks for that. You know what you're doing and I respect that. You can back up your statements with fact. Amen and thank you. BUT NO THANK YOU to the attitude. "If you can't stand the heat"????? You said that. That does say it all doesn't it? What heat? The only "heat" is being provided by you. Why must we do this? You do realize that you have more disagreements and negative confrontations than anyone posting here since I've joined this fine group of people several years ago. The quote at the top of my post is valid. You see differently and I see your point as well... but why bother offering the gift of your quality information if you
  5. For all intents and purposes... For the longest time I thought this was, "for all intensive purposes".
  6. On paper or In theory As a means to describe how things might work and how they actually will work. It's such a silly, overused expression around my work place that when I'm working with a band recording / producing, we usually say either as a joke when getting ready to try someone's idea. "OK... so if we double that guitar line with a B3 playing parallel 3 note chord harmony it'll give it some of that 'AWB

  9. Scaleable (when said by boss) That means I have to make whatever I'm working on have the ability to be done on a mass scale... even before we know if we'll need that. Metrics (when said by boss) That means we'll need numbers along with your work.
  10. Phil, I posted this question on the "mic the shell" but in case you miss it... "On the the track "Fall On Me", are you micing the snare's shell?"
  11. Soundelux E251C = 3000 Apogee Rosetta 800 192k =2700 Chameleon Neve clone x2 = 1500 True Precisian 8 (8 mic pres) = 2500 I think that would bring what I have already to a nice competent package. Why... did I win?
  12. Absolutely great vocal sound but... even more important, really good singer. It sounds like he's listening to all the right stuff and feeding his soul with the good. I can't quite put my finger on who I'm hearing him slightly emulate and that's definately a good thing. Ace singing dude. I like the guitar sounds a lot in the first cut. Very understated but rock and roll at the same time. Something a lot of folks can't seem to do. Nice work guitarist. Now Phil, a question you might not want to answer to protect the innocent: Did you, and if so, how much editing to grid did you do on this drummer? Great work and I like the band.
  13. Originally posted by UstadKhanAli It's pretty clear that you're either a troll or dense. In either case, there's not a whole lot that anyone can do about that besides ignore you. You've gotten far better advice than you deserve, and if you choose to ignore it and continue prattling on, have at it. At least Walters was amusing. You just made my morning Ken. I don't think I've seen you get pissed like that and I enjoyed it very much.
  14. I've finally finished producing the band Manganista. I produced, engineered, mixed, and helped a little with some playing and singing, all the while making sure it was Manganista's album. It's kind of "Talking Heads meet Danny Elfman and jam on some English Beat tunes." It's been a lot of work but I've learned a ton. You can check out a couple tunes here if you'd like... http://myspace.com/manganista
  15. Originally posted by Kevin Stone If you plan on using a pc to record music, then you'd do well to know how to build it This is so true. It is much easier than I thought. MUCH easier. Cheaper too, as he pointed out in his opening post. I recommend "Building a PC for Dummies." That $20 will make things go smoothly... like in a Saturday afternoon smooth.
  16. Originally posted by Kiwiburger Unfair to compare the tracking situation against modern mastered CD's. Totally different things. I wasn't contridicting you kiwi. I could see the confusion about talking apples and oranges and thought I'd point out that the Smurf's not totaly off the point here. Mixing and mastering are 2 different things for sure.

The discussion regarding slowing the attack time to let the peaks through really has more to do with sound quality. Unfortunately getting CD's up to "competitive level" compromises sound quality. Your grasp of the scenario is correct. They limit the peaks to gain head room which in turn is used to turn the track up. If you've got an editor like Sound Forge, rip a modern CD and take a look. A picture is worth a thousand words.
  18. Thanks Halljams . Great ideas here... The #1, uno, "don't mess with it" rule is "PRACTICE SLOW!!!!(underlined) AND PRACTICE PROPERLY(play the part neatly and correctly) AND PRACTICE REGULARLY!!!!" And bejeeber ... Try this, if you're a right handed player, flip the guitar around and try to play it left handed. This will remind you what the student will be facing coordination wise. Now seriously, what's easier to play, a single string riff, or chords? You'll be able to play a riff, but chords will sound like crap and be difficult pain in the butt in comparison. Now that is a great idea! I'll be using that one for sure. Thanks all.
  19. Originally posted by Tedster I'm just a big mouth. No, no, no. I just know how you feel about kids and figured you'd probably been in my shoes at one time or another regarding this.

If you're going to teach your daughter, just give her lots of space and have a lot of patience. Let her learn at her own pace, not one you think she should have. Thanks Mark, good stuff. What do you guys think of combining "homework hour" with just 15 minutes of chord work? We work on her homework together every night. Would it be overkill to both pick up the guitar right after homework and just run through those chords for 15 minutes?
  21. Originally posted by Tedster As you can probably tell, this topic touches a nerve with me. I thought it might. As I was thinking of starting the thread I wondered if the topic would be relevant, then figured you'd have something to offer.
  22. Originally posted by Dylan Walters As far as easy chords go I usually start off with Em7 (just one finger required), GMaj6 (just like a G but without the G on the 1st string), CMaj7, Am7, etc. Most of the 7th chords work well since you are usually taking something away. Of course, all of the beginner books start off with full major and minor chords, which are more difficult to play. More good stuff... Thanks Dylan.
