  1. There are people who sing a melody with a musical instrument. They hear the notes and repeat. When they take away the insturment, eg piano or guitar, they cannot sing the melody correctly. What was it that went wrong when they practiced with the guitar or the piano? Did they just repeat notes rather then learn how they feel and sound? Why doesn't the standard way of teaching how to sing work for some people? Is just repeating what you hear someone or yourself play really what learning to sing is all about? This seems to be the most popular method for all styles of singing.
  2. Have drones helped you become better at hiting the correct notes/pitches? I have used drones for O store Gud: https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5b11858da2772cf01402ee6e/1547759943157-AODNZKK5OGUEBO53JTUB/ke17ZwdGBToddI8pDm48kI6q7B9tf9c6VtLCeFT-t657gQa3H78H3Y0txjaiv_0fDoOvxcdMmMKkDsyUqMSsMWxHk725yiiHCCLfrh8O1z4YTzHvnKhyp6Da-NYroOW3ZGjoBKy3azqku80C789l0iy8Rj2bPXFyaluz0PeKicNFGYomvZfxsIgP60FRf7j6OJD8VZTBXF1BLzaggdI9Iw/HowGreatThouArt01-1955a.jpg For the first phrase I played the tonic (C in my case as this is an easier key) and sang the melody. Singing with drones seems like a good idea for learning to hit the right notes/pitches. Have you tried this technique? Did it help you? This tune is actually based on I-IV/V-V and for this you bassically only need two drones (C and G if you sing it in C major).
  3. How do you singers do retrieval practice? It seems to me that this must be done acapella. At a lesson we bassically only sing with accompaniment. I find that I have never been tought how retrieval pratice works for singers. What are your tips? I find that amateur singers who are ok at singing have sung acapella without even thinking about doing it as an exercise.
  4. Hi! I am learning I believe to my soul by Ray Charles (on piano and vocals). What are your professional thoughts on this song? Would you consider it a high key to sing in? And what are your tips for learning this song? Where would you professional singers start when practicing the vocals?
