WTF! My old amp, oh the horrors! Man that sux, I really feel for you. It sux that the headshell was damaged but also I hope you get this straightened out. Indeed you could probably have someone fix it up but I'd definitely try to go the insurance route or whatever and make them pay for being careless. Hopefully nothing in the chassis was damaged. However, I think Mesas are overbuilt and tough enough that I'd tend to think it would be okay but you never know with idiot shippers like this. Get some new tubes and fire the thing up! As far as the C+ mod is concerned, not fiction. Call Mike B yourself and talk to him about it. He told me he makes the Mark III pretty much identical to the Mark IIC+ on paper, circuit and component-wise but it won't be exactly the same due to the different transformers. Besides, the Mark III is a good sounding amp anyways so this mod is just a little something extra. Check the Boogie Board and you'll see that many people have had the mod done.
  2. Originally posted by KoaFreak Interesting, what exactly is the C+ mod? I'm interested in doing a few things to my MkIII. Notably---I would like to have it modded if possible so that while playing the lead channel, I get the effect of having the "RHY 2" knob pulled, which makes the lead channel sound fuller and is to die for, but somehow I can switch over to a perfectly clean RHY 1 sound with the MkIII footswitch. Physically pulling the RHY 2 while playing the LEAD channel is fine, but then using the very limited footswitch, you can't go back to RHY 1 without pushing the knob back in. Nicest thing I've bought so far this year (probably ever gear wise) is my PRS Custom 22, no pics yet. -Ha! My old amp! -KoaFreak, the IIC+ mod for the Mark III is a mod that Mike Bendinelli does at Mesa to make a Mark III sound more like a IIC+. I talked to Mike a week ago and he said he basically makes the Mark III circuit exactly like a IIC+ on paper but they won't sound the same because of the transformer difference. I can attest that they do not sound the same as I currently own 2 Mark IIC+ amps. The Mark III and mod make it close but not quite. You might want to call and talk to Mike B. at Mesa and see if he can do what you want. I, too, noticed a difference with the R2 knob pulled while in the lead channel on the amp you see there when I owned it before selling it to Danjovi.
  3. Another Mark IIC+ and Ibanez Musician guitar (hopefully, waiting for it to ship).

As for the cost - I know what Im' getting into - but thatnks for the warnings. HOwever, it still works out better than getting MESABoogie gear here in the UK - especially since it's had the mod done so I avoid the two way shipping costs to the US for the Mod. Some interesting figure for you - Mark III at $1050 work out at approx

I need to do guitar tracks in like 2 weeks, and ill probably be ampless How bout I leave my credit card, social security, lisense, and car at your house if you let me borrow a IIC+ for the recording? Man the suckiest part is how im going to be ampless once this bad boy goes : ( lol That does suck but hang in there. I have only one at the moment. The other is at GC waiting to get cleared. Believe it or not, I found this second one at GC in West Covina sitting right by the Mesa/Marshall room. It doesn't have EQ but it has verb, the 105 power transformer, and SimulClass. Even if I ship it to Mesa to get the EQ put in and make it fully-loaded, it's still cheaper than what I'd pay for on ebay or anywhere else.

I know what you mean about wanting the hot-rodded Marshall sound. I went from this Mark III/IIC+, a Mark IV, and 2 Marshall 1959SLP's to rack gear and now I'm back to heads. I won't go back to rack, heads just sound much better to me; more power, more punch. I got another Marshall 1959SLP that I'm going to mod and 2 Mesa Mark IIC+ heads now. While I dig the Boogie sound, I dig the hotrod Marshall sound as well. I want to get a Fender Dual Showman Reverb Head for cleans and then I'm set with a tri-amp setup. Aineias, I'd say $750 to $850 is what a nice Mark III with all options is going for. Then the mod is $350, the footswitches are $50 a piece from Mesa, the cover is what, $25? I'd say it's a good deal. Note shipping is going to be expensive as the head is very heavy. Can't you buy some sort of voltage convertor that you can plug US stuff into? A new tranny is going to cost a lot of $ and I wouldn't want to screw with an amp like that. Just a thought.
  7. Here's a bump. I sold that very amp to danjovi and unless he trashed it:D, it's in very good condition and sounds good. I think it's a good price considering the mod, re-tube, footswitches, and cover. Plus, he's a good guy to deal with:thu:
  8. Originally posted by SQUAREHEAD So... these MkIIC+ amps have one great tone... Can this "great" tone be had in a live gigging situation with a smoke'n clean tone too? OR do you have to tweak each so that you can't really get the "best of both worlds" at the same time..? Keith Yes, great dirty and great clean tone. 2 channel amp with shared EQ but I'm able to just set and forget and it works for both types of tones. Great amp, I love my colliseum and will never sell it. The Mark III's are the ones that are 3 channel amps but really only 2 good tones at a time.
  9. I like Dream Theater, just recently picked up "Awake". Great album but I noticed on this album more than the others I have there are a lot of times where I cannot understand what he's singing. Other times, his voice sounds really good with vibrato and sustain. Almost reminds me of an opera singer, good tone but what the heck are they saying?

( I cant remember the name of the tune.) and they Happy Trails.. No, sister or some VH family member who's female that does the clarinet, says so in the liner notes. Hilarious song and this thread, too. Dick Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine do a bunch of funky, lounge-ish covers, pretty funny stuff.
