  1. I always wondered that as I am a huge fan. I use a synth lead for that myself.
  2. They're fine. The Mojo has build quality problems. I don't care what pros use all the time.
  3. Dave Foster used it a ton. A lot of the early 80s tunes also.
  4. How did you make out Kathy?
  5. The Hammond will always sound better front of house. I had a Mojo and it didn't sound like a Hammond to me. You should have waited for the XK-4.
  6. Yes try not to overthink it. I used to play piano for the utilities union and the university I was working for. One of the deans knew me when I temped in the mail room. I did it about 10 years. Carols aren't my thing but I learned enough of them to get me through and hour in a half. Well come to find out after I did it solo there was a guitarist with a small PA and he and i just winged it. People were happy enough about it so we'd get asked back every year.
  7. To me it’s way to much of a controlled environment I did the wedding thing. I have a lot of people that like doing that and always tell me “the money is good, free food,” That isn’t enough of a selling point for. I always tell them that “it’s not the same as being in front of 5000 on a big stage. I guess it’s just that it’s a different way to gig. I just don’t live in that circuit anymore. I’d much rather do festivals, wineries and a brewery here or there.
  8. That's cool. I actually thought of getting one. I have a Kurzwiel Forte 88
  9. I got rid of a clone a few years ago. I like the SK Pro so much better.
  10. Mine is under warranty and it's a software issue really. Does the company have a bench fee to look at the unit. I don't think it would be #1500 for a repair. That sounds kind of hi.
  11. You will have to dress up. Also being told to turn down is a pain. I suggest being self-contained with your own PA system as well. Also put together a good E-press kit. How many pieces is the band?
  12. Actually I just read this. That is it in a nutshell.
  13. Well I do know to stick up for myself. I wouldn't be passive aggressive. Both bands have positives, it isn't all negative it's just hard to kind of sit by.
  14. As some of you know I had a pretty successful band around here locally for almost 10 years. We had a huge following, merchandise and had a big impact on the community . When everything went south last year with the singer it shook me really hard. I almost had to get the cops involved with the singer but at any rate with some therapy and help from friends I have the energy back to go forward. I plan to bring my band back with new people but it will take time so in the meantime I am a sideman. It’s strange I have fell into two original projects. They do some covers but both artists have a number of albums on their own. One is a horn band that is about and hour and a half away. They rehearse once a month and have some shows booked. On the other end in western part of the state I am playing with a guy and a pretty good core of musicians which happened kind of by accident. I sat in for a fund raiser and they hired me for some shows as they liked my playing. In both cases people are very nice but I feel like a fish out of water. On the one hand the horn band has some pretty good tunes but aren’t really keyboard friendly. All the songs are in F minor and B flat minor. Not impossible keys to play in but are a pain in the ass. I feel like sometimes it’s tough to get parts in these tunes as they were not composed on piano. Everyone’s nice enough but it’s tough to jump in to an already moving project. I am learning 3 CDs of stuff and their covers. The other band is Rock and Roll and some really good tunes and is a little bit easier as I am free to come up with parts. I am learning material off 4 CDs of his stuff. One thing about having your own band is that you get to dictate small details that sometimes make 90% of the difference in your product. I was able to be hyper organized and it helped me propel my project forward. In both cases I can tell when a bass player doesn’t listen to a drummer or a guitarist that doesn’t listen to other musicians (big surprise there). Or complaining about getting gigs which is weird. It’s the easiest thing to do for me. It’s a little hard to sit by and see problems in these bands that are not a big deal and can be solved easily. I don’t say much as it isn’t my show but its hard to watch it unfold after my experience. I try to take it for what it is but things don’t have to be that hard.
  15. Yes I have one of the former members like that. I think it's tough because some people just can't get better or don't have the aptitude. It doesn't mean you don't care about them, it's just that you can't share music because you are not on that same level.
  16. The problem with bands is little things become big things and your patience eventually runs out because things don't improve or can't get any better.
  17. KC just went through a migration and looks similar to this message board.
  18. Well we built up a band around a unique singer and she and the guitarist wrote the songs. It was a tough situation. The thing is it is just so sad how things have ended up. Three of us talk mostly. The other two I don't have anything to do with really.I wish I could pick up but it would have to be with totally different people.
