  1. My "if you could only have one" is unique and based on personal experience... Before I cashed out my vintage collection about 9 years ago, I had a 1976 or so Fender Starcaster... It played like butter, honestly. Super low soft action, the equal of ANY 24 3/4 scale guitar... However, it had a beefy maple neck, laminated maple body, 25 1/2 scale, and GREAT clean twangy yet POWERFUL Fender wide range humbuckers... This guitar was a PERFECT marriage of telecaster and 335 tones... It could cover that entire range, honestly. What a fine guitar that was, I should NEVER have sold it back to Rumble Seat... It was a perfect "only" guitar... crossed Fender twang, clarity and bite with Gibson punch growl and sustain, with the soft playability of a good 335, and the feel of a slick Fender tele with maple board.... bob
  2. I could NEVER understand how neurotics like this guy with severely impulsive behavior, and not a nickel to spare get hot chicks to marry and bear them children.....
  3. The Riveras are good amps, not knocking them, but they just don't sound like a "real" Fender.. Got thier own sound.. Half Fender, 30% nondescript tube amp, 20% Mesa...
  4. Can't speak about the Bassman, but I have owned 5 other Rivera Fenders.. 2-Fender 140 heads 1-Fender 75 1x 15 Combo 2 Fender Princeton Reverb II 1x12 combo They are good tube amps.. nothing special.. Last of the point to point Fenders... They DO NOT sound as good as a Good Silverface or Blackface amp IMHO... They are loud and powerful, but a lot of that "classic Fender" tone is just not there... IMHO you are WAY better off with a good Silverface or BF Bassman,.. If you want an authentic Bassman sound, just buy a "real" Bassman. The Rivera Fender were good amps, but NOT as good as the older models.. Not even that close really.. bob
  5. Dtorg,,, Call Elliot at Rumble Seat Music, Ithaca NY ... He may pay your price... he has regular buyers all over the world and can probably still make a profit paying you what you need.. Its worth a shot, he pays serious money for nice stuff like your strat.. Either that, or ebay it... It will be a hard sell here.. $200 Agiles sell here, once you get past that, it gets tough:) bob
  6. Hey man, I'm 55 and I still rock the house with regularity... I play classic and oldies rock, some country.. whatever.. The young kids crap themselves when they see a 55 year old that can rock as hard or harder than they can Its all good .. Enjoy your guitar. Branch out a bit to give yourself more options. Picking up a cheap bass and learning to be a decent bass player is always good. Its gotten me more work thats for sure.. Just enjoy, and find guys your age that like to play your kind of music... Metal was NEVER a big money maker on the local club scene.. Not as much as other forms . Its harder to be a metal guy on a local level I would think, if you are looking to work, but there are plenty of metal heads your age that love to play it still. EVERYONE gets old, ugly, bald, whatever... Part of who we are. As the Who once said in a song... "Pick up my guitar and play-Just like yesterday, then I get on my knees and pray" bob
  7. wow, I would have thought this would have generated a bit more interest...
  8. BTW, thats just dust between the pickups.. The sun was very bright and highlighted that bit of dust thats between the pickups,,, This is a late S-1... The black pickups were started in 78, and the model was discontinued in 1979... Maple board was also used in later S-1 models.. earlier models usually had a rosewood board... I think is a 79, possibly an 80, as a I do think a few leftovers were sold, but they were not in the catalog... According to the serial # its an 81, but there's NO way IMHO.. The were gone about 2 years earlier for the most part... bob
  9. Absolutely beautiful original cond.. Very lightly played, clean as a whistle for a 30 year old... Maple neck and board,Mahogany body,Satin Walnut finish.. all original including original Gibson form fit case also in fantastic condition.. Very rare guitar and even more rare considering the FINE condition... Shes 9 out of 10, just a few tiny dings.. You'll never see a cleaner one.. Factory Lawrence designed 3 single coils and oddball switching.. Sounds like an OLD strat,, No Gibson sound in there at all!. Cleanest one you'll ever see... .....$700 firm or will swap around that ballpark for small older tube amp, other guitars , whatever... No Korean,Chinese, digital or solid state stuff please... No need to respond here, please email.. or PM...bullet_bob@lycos.com _________________
