I have a hard time brining myself to say DAW, as in rhyming with saw. I hear it all the time. It always sound goofy to me. As for S/PDIF, I really don't like to hear "spih-diff". I personally say "ess pee diff". So the S/P are letters and the DIF is like a word. Same with TDIF, tih-diff or tah-diff, is commonly heard, but that bugs me. I say tee-diff.

I'm not real familiar with that recorder, but I took a quick glance at the manual. It looks like the metering is pretty limited. I would shoot for setting the levels to average around the -18 to -12 range, with peaks hitting the -6. That will get you a decent level.
