  1. If it works I say yes, being able to utilize more ram FTW!
  2. New song I mixed at school (metal/hardcore). No samples used. www.soundclick.com/thenerolproj
  3. It doesn't matter. Like MS is not going to pull XP eventually . They control the market end of story. Either switch over to OSX (BTW 10.5.2 is still a tad buggy with no digidesign support yet) or suck it up and keep using your copy of XP. It's not like it's going to be impossible to find once they pull the plug.
  4. The thing with the 002 is you can only use it with ProTools software. Are you sure? You can run a mbox with whatever you want, same the with the 002R.
  5. Depends really on what software you want to go with. But for me it would be the 002.
  6. I thought this was pretty well done. I can't get completely get behind the drums but they cut well and that's really important. Vocals sounded really, really good IMO. Guitars sounded good too. Again, well done. What kind of setup did you use for the drums. What kind of kit, snare, cymbals, overheads, mics/positions, room, etc. did you use? I have to agree with you 100% I am not a huge fan of the drums either. He was pretty bull headed when it came to the drum sound. But anyhow the fallowing was used: Everything was run through the firepod's stock converters and preamps: Mapex kit (yeah don't remember the make unfortunatly) Ziljian A and Z custom cymbols Pearl masters snare SM57 mics on all toms and the top of the snare (total of 5 sm57 mics). sennhieser e609 on the bottom Studio projects C1 as overheads AKG D112 for bass drum (sample was used as well). Guitars: Ibanez MMM1 w/ gibson burstbucker pro pups LTD 300 series guitar w/ EMG HZ pickups Peavey 5150 Crate cab with vintage 30 speakers Some of the tracks were sent to a guy to be reamped through a triple rectifier. The 5150 stuff was 2 sm57 mics for each take and the recto stuff was one sm57 per take. Bass: Fender american J standard 4 string into the ampeg SVT plug in. DI track was duplicated and the camel audio camelcrusher was applied to the second. Vocal: Studio projects C1. Messed with it quite a bit in melodyne.
  7. http://www.myspace.com/tabernacklehc I mixed this for a friend of mine. I did not record anything so I worked with what I had. This is not mastered, just my mix. Is there anything I should ad or change? I did a cut of 60hz on the guitar, no high cut, very very slight compression and reverb since it sounded a little compressed out of the pod anyways, adjusted the levels, and called it a day with those. Drums I used a lot of compression and EQ to fit. I put as much midi samples over the real drums as I could since the source was not that great to begin with. Bass I just added a drop of compression and thats all. Vocals I used decent compression and cut 60hz and below. I bumped the vocals at 300hz. I added slight reverb and delay to try to make them sound more full Anyone got any tips on what would make this sound a little better? Thanks. I think this is great for a pod! What were you running patch wise? I think you nailed the genre's sound (they sound allot like Comeback Kid to me and thats awesome). Don't second guess it I think it sounds great. I would try chopping off the high end of the guitars at around 10k though (trust me all that is above this on a pod is fizz). I would also consider slamming the main vocal with lots of compression (like -12db of compression 3:1 ratio slower attack decay to taste). This is just to bring it out front a tad more. Thats all I can think of.
  8. I haven't posted a song anywhere in a while and this is my latest stuff. Unfortunately it's stream only due to agreement with the band. www.soundclick.com/thenerolproj It's the first one "Illusion" there is swearing for anyone with virgin ears . I'll provide info on the recording for anyone interested.
  9. I'm going to post new pics after this month because I'm getting a new desk and some other new stuff.
  10. Mine not shown is my main production computer That looks awesome. I love the sound of the real thing. Nothing in the VSTi world can compete with the real modules and synths. Cool stuff man!
  11. I've now upgraded to a set of BX8a. Should have done so alot sooner. I also purchased an m-audio keystation 88 pro. By the end of the month I am getting a dual powermac G5 2.0ghz and a Vox AC15CC combo. So some nice stuff coming my way.
  12. You hearing is binaural thats why. That being said I have heard some fantastic mixes done solely in headphones. Seriously though I think it's easier to mix in monitors because a good pair of headphones is just as much price wise as a good set of monitors. For example: Pair of KRK rokit 5 and m-audio bx5a monitors run you around $300usd Pair of headphones nice enough to mix on probably start around $300.
  13. Well for what it's worth I think they are great mics. Vocally they are good and as overhead mics they are good. They don't have that sharp nasty high end crap that cheap MXL mics have (and hence the reason I bash those mics so bad). Things IMO they fail hard on: Bass guitar (lol) Distorted guitar (unless is for ambience) Close micing clean or dirty guitars. (honestly I really hate the proximity effect with this mic). Downside: They are heavy (as most LDC mics are) and cheap stands are not cutting it.
  14. I bought mine basically as an opportunity that came my way. Someone was selling the set of 2 for $220 shipped so how could I pass on that? I don't care much for reviews as everyone with a checkbook can buy a mic. Doesn't mean they know what they are talking about.
  15. They don't seem too bad. But I can't tell for sure until I use it with my own equipment. Your correct with that statement. Also the room is a factor as well. This video makes it look like I recorded in a box, I didn't the walls behind me are not adjacent and the ceiling isn't finished to it was a pretty okay sounding room. It was also a pretty open space to boot.
  16. Video of C1 mics being used: Drum tracking with C1 pair. I like them but I think there are better mics for the job.
  17. Don't let that stop you. I basically 'financed' my new studio by selling everything in the apartment that wasn't tied down or required for survival. Of course I'm and 'all DI' type of studio, with only vocals via mic, so being in an apartment isn't so much of an issue for me in terms of noise. No big amps or anything. They may call the cops once in a while when I'm laying down vocals becaue they think someone is torturing an animal or something. Oh I don't I just really wish I could treat the room I mix in. Although so far my mixes seem to translate well, but it would be sweet to be able to listen better.
  18. I also have not shown: 2 studio projects C1 mics 2 sm57 mics 1 sm58 mic 3 audix f10 mics 1 audix f12 mic 2 audix f15 Ldc mics 1 senn e609 silver Oh and here is a recent tracking video that I did with the drummer of my band, I borrowed the extra 3 sm57 mics: Sean drumming.mov
  19. My "studio" is still in it's infancy. I don't make that much scratch and I have only been doing this for a couple of years so I don't have alot to show for it. That and I am stuck in an apartment. Recording on location because I don't actually have a "studio": My 83 american j standard fender 4 string being played by a lefty: Not shown is my newly acquired mbox2. Yes this is my only machine, I am probably going to invest in a tower next year and I am getting real monitors this month: Pedals at my disposal (the DS-1 and BD-2 are modded now): MG]
  20. I wasn't being sarcastic. I really do love the loudness war.
  21. For one mic on the whole kit (I assume) place it right behind the drummer pointed at the kick so the body of the drummer gets in the way of the kit. Place it about the hieght of the drummers shoulder. If you have more than one mic however I would look at other placements. This idea came from recording magazine so I can't take credit.
  22. I will vouch for Shadow Walker his reamping services sound great (I am Guitargodgt over at the sneap forum Shadow Walker).
  23. Don't tell me I need one of those pricey reverse di boxes for that please:( Sorry but that is the unfortunate answer. Your guitar is not a line level device, and your soundcard is. Some people say it sounds good strait from there soundcard, for me it sounded like {censored}. A cheap DI in reverse is okay but still pretty noisy.
