1. I'd say the same as my buddy BK. Today I just happen to be checking in to see if I can find a post I made some years ago where I'd decided on which GF p'ups to put in an Epi Wilshire. (i.e. wanting to use the "me of the past" for a recommendation for the current GF sale). But every once in a while I'll still pop in to see what the activity is. But the days of of exalting mass GAS-driven obsessive compulsive buying disorders are now relics of the past; and along with that, the user reviews and most of the irreverent banter.
 2. Wow, the planets are aligned. I just happened to grab my Squier Duo-Sonic to play tonight, and look what thread has bubbled back to the top at HCEG.
 3. Funny, that was one of my favorite replies of all time! A healthy dose of reality.
 4. I still own 7 of the dern things: From my inventory sheet

SQUIER '51 BLONDE

SQUIER '51 2TSB

SQUIER TELE CUSTOM II

SQUIER AFFINITY TELECASTER SPECIAL

SQUIER CLASSIC VIBE DUO-SONIC '50s Electric Guitar (Desert Sand)

SQUIER 60th Anniversary Classic Vibe '50s Stratocaster - Aztec Gold + Fender Metro 60th Anniversary Strat Gig Bag

SQUIER HELLO KITTY STRATOCASTER (used) $270 + Strap 30.95 + Gig Bag $95.78

I wouldn't mine parting with one of the '51s, the Tele Custom II and the Affiinity Telecaster Special. They are all pretty good, but I need to thin down the herd a bit. The Affinity Telecaster is actually a nice looking guitar. I bought it as a poor man's '52 in mind with the plan to do some mods, but I've never gotten around to doing so. But I got lucky with some good wood grain matching on the one I received. The Tele Custom II used to be my favorite for throwing in the car when I was traveling some distance with some opportunity for some jamming at the destination. But lately I discovered that when I roll the volume off a bit, the tone dulls up. Took me a long time to realize that since I was usually playing it at home wide open and adjusting the tone/volume at the amp. But when playing with others, the drop off on the treble end when I had to lower my volume from the guitar controls dropped that guitar down in my esteem. But some new pots would probably help (or maybe a capacitor?). But I really don't know how much time/$ I'd want to put into it. It was always a bit on the noisy side for a P-90 and could use some better p'ups as well. Still a good value guitar though, and probably my most used Squier. The Classic Vibe Anniversary Strat and the Hello Kitty have just been added to the herd in the last 5 months or so. They're fun. Well you all know what a HK looks like, but I'll adorn this thread with a few pics of that new Strat. After I got mine from Sweetwater, I happened to be a large Ma n Pa retail store just South of me, and I saw they had one of those in their "Wayne's World Acrylic Display Case". While I think they may be "I'm not worthy of the glass display case", they are indeed striking looking strats. Well, that's about all I've got to say about Squiers, other than they sure have gotten better than they were in the early to mid 90's. I was no fan of their laminate body era. I bought one of those for my son and it really couldn't be upgraded. The stock p'ups were actually about the best match for it, adding Lace Sensors was a waste of money, but changing out the chunky tuners was "a must". It's nice that you can now get into the Classic Vibe Series and get a guitar that really doesn't need any mods.
 5. Which reminds me, it was sad we lost Elizebeth last October. She was just 55.
 6. Yeah, I've done the same sorta stuff. Bought and traded off a Randy Rhoads Pro. But only because I looked a bit lumpy in the matching spandex. And I also own a JCM2000/DSL100 w 4x12 that I doubt I'd buy again. The first time I cranked it up, my asshole neighbor was calling me to turn it down within 20 minutes. I recently did a neighborhood gig and it was interesting for me (as a home hobbyist player) to really get a chance to see how little amp it takes to keep up in a mix of drums, harmonica, bass player, 2 keyboardists, another guitar player, lead singer and thump bucket player.

The tech, who is one of 2 or 3 authorized Gibson techs in the state suggested fixing it with either of those two methods. I thought the baking soda and super glue routine sounding a bit hokey when I'd heard of it before, but he was very confident with that process. 9. Wow Woody, two great dogs in such a short span. So sorry to hear this. Wow, and that's about what I would have said too. Sooooooo sad. I really empathize. I'm still mourning after losing just one great dog almost 6 years later. So sorry.
 10. I would support JJ for mod. That way we could get people banned for simply being "lame". JJ for President!!
 11. Part of it is the tedium of seeing subjects endlessly repeated. But if we all pull together - Shoot - it's hopeless. Sometimes when I've posted stuff containing some tab and a YT link that shows some "instant gratification" song I've learned that's uber fun to play, those thread sink faster than stones in foam. So to give this thread some buoyancy, "Show Me Your Green Guitars!"
 12. I have a dogged determination to pursue futility, so no.
 13. Yeah, there are some great hand made guitars in Mexico. Plenty of old-world craftsmanship still alive and well down there. But personally I'd have to try before I would buy.
 14. I've tried a few other CDs because of sharing appreciations. But other than that, - NO CHANGE I'm open minded, but I like what I like. As a child of the late '50s, I've heard quite a few come and go so I'm not easily impressed by something new unless it brings something truly enjoyable to the table. But I never want to close my mind to new opportunities in listening enjoyment. At first glance I'd have never thought I'd enjoy a tune by this. but I do enough to have found the tab and learned the song Studio version
 15. ' Although this vid does have some cause for skepticism
 16. Does she prefer rosewood? I'd think maple or ebony might be better. bone neck would be totally rad.
 17. To quote the words/lyrics of Frank Zappa, "Strictly Commercial" But it's not only that, it's also the narrow focus that the RS magazine uses. "Best guitarists" is a topic that few men, let along children journalists, should tackle. I know it needs to be done and readers want it to be done, but their results are always such utter bull{censored} if the context is taken literally.
 18. Personally, I like them. I like the way it opens up the tone of the guitar and adds more top end vibe and chime and a bit more nasally mids. About the only downside "for me" with them is a bit less sustain.
 19. Thanks guys, i ended up getting this, which looks like basically the same thing without the fender branding: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SKB66/ Yeah, that one looks a little better. Less plasticy. Not sure I'd pay the extra $30 for it, but it is a cleaner look.
 20. One of the original graphite/carbon fiber Steinberger electric guitars with Trans Trem I bought a Spirit years ago, but there not the same thing - of course I once went to buy a Steiny back in the mid 90s, but found they were suddenly no longer available. They were quite pricey back then - can't exactly remember how much now (something like around $1800 IIRC) - these days, I doubt I'd want to buy one, but I'd still like to play one.
 21. I'd recommend the Fulltone OCD In the HP mode, it sounds more British. In the LP mode it sounds to me more like cranked Fender Tweed This guy seems to have the same opinion And remember this demo is just with a strat Here's another vid with a Lester
 22. One of the best manufacturers out there, makes some of the fugliest headstocks, IMO. Kendrick The Continental The Tejas I've seen Kenny Vaughan playing Kendrick. Here he is playing a G&L which is also a tortured headstock IMO. But I thought I'd display Kenny since "Kendrick" reminded me of him. He's a total "Pat", but he can really play.
