  1. Hello, in order to get rid of the cable mess when using a laptop, my edirol ua25 and 2 microphones just to record sessions I searched the web and found the Alesis AM3 USB Stereo Microphone. Yeah, great, just one cable and you get good stereo quality to record in audiograbber, which I use because it is convenient in cutting automatically when silence and calling lame.exe to make mp3's. This audiograbber works fine with edirol + microphones, but I hoped to get rid of cablework. Setup of the AM3 was easy, record levels were fine in audiograbber - line recording. When listening to the recording I noticed noise, some artifact which left me unsatisfied. To check out all options I used different recording tools, and recorded in wav, saw 44100 Hz, stereo 16 bits. This sample - converted to mp3 - is attached. The noise level depends on the volume level on the microphone, the more level, the more noise. Since google found no forum entries on this issue, I called the alesis supporter who told me that it would be a faulty device. So I had it replaced. Still the noise on the recordings. I have found some nice guy on youtube - - who did some recording with an AM3 and hey, there is the same noise. So what should I do? Is this noise always there with this device? A product property? What goes wrong? You see, a setup with a stereo USB microphone is attractive, I'd rather sort the issue out instead of returning the device to the dealer. I would appreciate any help from you guys out there. If I get it to work I will issue a howto on the cheapest recording platform for everybody to use 4 free. Great harmonies to everybody! Eckart
