  1. yes, seems to be a 70s Vox PA cab. has an eminence and a CTS. sounds pretty good plugged in... very bass-y... thinking new speakers will give it new life.
  2. Hello! Today, I scored a mystery 2x12 cab at a musicians' "gear-age" sale for about $100. But I have no idea what it is, or how to tell what it is. Would appreciate any thoughts you had. Here's what I know: It's a 2x12 - Marshall-y looking, with the gold trim/piping and tolex, plastic corners, plastic recessed handles and general girth (see pics). On the back it says "Vox Loudspeaker Unit" - which looks like a sticker someone put on... otherwise, no distinguishing brand marks. I can't figure out how to open it up to really get a look inside. Back panel is unlike any I've ever seen... no visible screws to loosen. I was able to take off the handles to peek inside. Couldn't make out much... the left speaker seems to be a '70s CTS given its date code of 137 7514. Other numbers on it: 128 38G and 123710. No idea about what impedance it is. But it is wired in series with the other one, which is more of a mystery. No label (visible, at least), and just the following numbers on the cone: 350 00 and 451 2108-1 (Again, no indication of impedance.) So, any ideas??? Would love more info. Would love to be able to crack it open. I'm not sure if it's even a guitar cab - may be it's a bass cab? A PA cab? Check out the pics: CTS speaker (taken from peek hole/recess handle hole): "Other/mystery" speaker: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1/davexpert/000_1654.jpg Thanks for your help!!!

  6. I find that it's best to place the delay first in the chain
  7. Modded. It probably has a LED light to indicate when it's on (and when it's not).

  9. I love Rats. I've built my tone around a LED-less 80s smallbox Rat. But that said, I must use a simple EQ pedal (a Dano fish n chips will do) to boost some bass/lower mids and dial a little of the shrill out. Do this, and the Rat becomes very versatile. It responds well to simple tweaks in tone.
  10. If you're able, try running a fuzzface (or clone) full blast into a Rat set hot. The result is sort of a tonal "implosion" ... where there's so much gain going on it just sort of folds over itself, yielding a sort of Hammond organ-on-crack tone.
