  1. Welcome to HC....

FYI we use private messages for 'off-board' discussions':thu: None here will email you once you are verified.

I have only seen one Lyle which belonged to a bandmate in the early '70s....sort of a Coronado copy. I'm sure you know there were a number of instruments identical to Lyles under different names. Lyles were imported by the L.D. Heater Co.  in Oregon from the 50's to the late 70's.

    serial number info: http://www.matsumoku.org/cm_models/serial-no-dating-info/

Please do post a pic or two....:cool2:

Have you checked at the Mandolin Cafe?

  2. 1) get a longer set screw and don't try to mend the split shaft.

    2) yay! :bounce017:

    3) the pickguard is just a bit too large by .5-.75 width, and sits too high [IMHO] but it does bring the headstock 'home':thu:

4)I'm just trying to find the bridge! Has anybody seen the bridge? Please! (Have you seen the bridge?) I ain't seen the bridge! (Where's that confounded bridge?)

  3. the other advantage to the jack plate is you don't need an output jack tightener. Just a screw driver and pliers/wrench. Nothing worse on a gig than having an intermittent signal due to a loose jack!

I have two...one for the shop,

    shopping.webp

and a different one in the gig-kit

  4. u6, I was thinking about this a while back, and I am glad to see  you are back on it.:thu:

Typically I use fishing line and load the pots/switch through the f-hole. Other people use surgical tubing. I know that Coros have weird f-holes [size and center point*], so the parts won't go in that way?

As to the jack...yes, the jack plate is the proper solution. One of the more common repairs I've done is retrieving 'sucked in' jacks and adding a jack plate.

*the classic design is centered at the bridge...not your fault these were not designed by luthiers.

I play slide in open E. I've tried a couple of other variations, but E just works for the simple stuff I want to do. Never really been a fan of wild open tunings.

My fave is still open G, both on guitar and on lap.... on guitar, I can still partial chord. Must be the Keef effect....but I keep all 6 strings....

O.K.  I'll get more pics later today.

It bought it from an individual that was a selling a group of guitars from a relative that passed.

I'm in t for $300.00.  I'm o.k. with that because it sounds great and plays really nice.  But I would like to know who made it.

the fret board appears to be Rosewood.

    Thanks for all your help.

Sadly, I'm in the middle of doing that for an old friend....

  7. Not a BMG...not Burns...not Harley Benton...not Guild...not Greco.  Those are the usual suspects.

We will need better pics..neck joint, controls, tuners...

There is no plate behind the bridge...do you know who manufactures the bridge [Kahler, Wilkinson...?]

It does have May's unique neck dot pattern.

How long have you had the guitar, and what did you pay for it?

To my knowledge, neither GF or Rondo have knocked off a copy.

There have been so many versions of the 'Red Special', this may be hard to pin down, as there are plenty of Chinese knock-offs on the market, customizable kits and one-offs.

    Some places you can look:

CQuadro Guitar Works (now Carpinteri Guitars) in Italy makes Red Special replicas (the Bohemian and the Extreme).[23]

Dansan Guitars makes Red Special replicas hand built in France.[24]

Dillion Guitars (prior to 2014 were built in Korea) making "Tribute Guitars" in two models. Dillion Guitars are manufactured in Vietnam by Inyen Vina CO. LTD of Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam.[25] [26]

RS Custom Guitars run by Everett Wood makes a variety of Red Special style replicas hand-built in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.[27]

RS Guitars which were hand-built in Arizona, U.S. by Steve Turpin discontinued production of their models in January 2011.[28]

In Germany Scheithauer Guitars makes a Red Special style replica called "Mayday" in Mühlhausen.[29]

  8. I have used many tunings over the years, including open Eb [working with a singer who 'lived' in Eb...every...damned...song...it got pretty boring.]....but never open Bb, but I think you hit a good choice. Dropping the low E down to D would give you more 'thump', I doubt you need that in a praise band setting. You could try tuning the high E down to D rather than up to F, which would get you a thicker tone on the high end, not so shrill. Try them and see...:idk:

And you could use a slide!

    I certainly didn't know that.

A guy who made his name playing African-American music is an open racist.....he and another once fave of mine, Van Morrison, are bonkers, anti-vax, anti-immigrant...sad, really.

I'm guessing BB King was not aware of this either when they collaborated...

Those are Duncan takes on Filtertrons? The blue/white thing is okay... maybe do a Mr Freeze thing.... but I'd change or remove that pickguard... it just seems way off for the rest of the colors. A white guard could be very tasty IMO

a clear guard would work as well....okay, not as well since it would not cover any of the finish....

That can't be a real Clapton quote....can it?

In a word: yes.  He said this at a concert in 1976...how did you miss this?:idk:

I stopped buying his records after that. A guy who would say that in public would toss his own kid out a window....maybe....

Does that mean I have to work with the Nazis now, and when the war is over I'll be shot?

Hey, at least you know I'm not a bot or a scammer. 😄

Not really trying to talk about anything. I picked up a strat for the first time in weeks last night. The band had a gig booked for last weekend, but it got re-scheduled for October, and there's nothing else on the horizon. At some stage I'm going to have to start selling kit that's surplus to requirements. :(

no, not the Nazis...the pommie bastards ruining the UK...

you need to post, start threads and need to thank/like/laugh every post we read, and that is part of how you get your rankings...

I'm already rank enough...there are, IIRC, 14 levels...not quite as challenging as the levels of consciousness:rolleyes2:
