    This was a bargain. It does a lot of things that I wanted to be able to do plus a lot else besides, and for a player like me who isn't wealthy that means a lot. I play mostly jazz and improvised music, and for the latter I like to be able to treat the sound a lot - this is perfect at that. If it were stolen or lost, I think I would probably save up and get a Boss volume, a Whammy pedal, some sort of loop station and a more portable USB interface. Having said that, as a pitchshifter I compared this to a Digitech Whammy 4, and this does nearly everything that does, but at half the price.
  2. In retrospect this may have been the wrong pedal for me. When I used it, it certainly sounded nothing like it did when the people who inspired me to buy it used it. But even when it worked, I almost never turned it on. It ruined what tone I have (with, like, a Squier Strat and an LP 100, I know, I know) and substituted a horrible blurry fuzzy noise. The thing is now cluttering up my office and I have no idea what to do with it, seeing as it doesn't work. My only consolation is that the Russian model I tried out in the shop sounded even worse.
  3. I play mostly free improvised music and also back up singer/songwriter friends when they need a guitar player; also like classic rock, noise, punk, hardcore and bebop. I tried out a lot of pedals before settling on this one, and the Rat was exceptional value at 99 Euro, well down in the cheaper end of the market. If it were stolen I would definitely get another. I love the basically rich, fat, angry tone, as well as the versatility, the fact that I can ring so many changes just by tweaking a few knobs.   4. Playing as a serious amateur for 19 years. Decided that if I were to get this, I had to slim down my collection, so am now down to this, a 2002 Tele and my rusty old 1987 Squier Strat.   5. I can't quite remember why I bought this. Now I own it, I can only imagine using it for very recondite purposes. The digital distortion and "stepping"effect as the echoes die away is remarkably ugly, and it gobbles up battery power. But if I ever find myself in some sort of trance/ambient/coffee table electronica ensemble, I'm sure it'll come into its own. The older I get (been playing for 20 years) the more I just want to plug a guitar straight into an amp and do all the rest with my hands.

I've been playing for 20 years and this is so far my favourite guitar, although it's easily the toughest to play that I've ever known - I also have a battered old Squier Strat, a temperamental Epiphone LP 100 and a lovely old Yamaha dreadnought.     Burns Marquee

    I've been playing for my own pleasure for 20 years and own a 17 year old Squier Strat, an old Yamaha dreadnought the model of which escapes me, a 1998 Epiphone LP 100 and (now) a three-year-old Tele. This was going to be my best guitar, but it fell apart in my hands - not because it was shoddily made, I don't think, just badly designed.   8. I'll never sell this or give it away; it was the guitar I learned to play on and for all its infuriating rubbishness, I love it. It sounds awful, plays horrible and looks like a piece of rubbish. But plugged into a Marshall with a Marshall ED-1 Compressor, a Cry Baby, a Boss Overdrive and the Gain turned up, it will do its best to sing the Star-Spangled Banner. Bless its little Japanese machine heads. Oh but seriously, I wouldn't ever buy one.
