  1. ..it being the greatest amp Fender ever made and all.....
  2. If you don't get the big deal about Deluxes, you are in NO WAY a "Fender guy"
  3. If there are an infinite number of points possible between two points...how can someone walk over an infinite number of points? (one of Xeno's paradoxes) hint: "infinite number?"
  4. I always think "That Girl" when i see one of those guitars. I'm an old fart.
  5. I've played some awesome sounding laminate spruce top guitars. In my opinion the sound is usually a bit lacking in high end... but very powerful and strong like a mahogany topped guitar. Some obvious advantages to a lam top acoustic (besides price) is that they don't crack or damage as easily and don't change with humidty as easily. The sound is also more stable over time. I have a friend in Jamaica who works in the ghettos of Kingston and I assembled an all plywood guitar for her because of the climate and her situation. BTW it's starting to become fashionable for high end luthiers to "double top" their acoustics...which is basically a type of plywood top. I've never played one but it's becoming known: $4,100 for a plywood top guitar? http://cgi.ebay.com/DOUBLE-TOP-African-BLACKWOOD-Concert-classical-guitar_W0QQitemZ290292804514
  6. Take with you to Nazareth for the factory tour and just keep yelling loudly at them in front of the crowd about it. They'll help you out.
  7. So you suggest 43.8 ma when the amp tops out (won't let the guy bias any higher) than 45? And you think this is 65%? Your advice is "off". Have a nice day.
  8. I think your math is off. The amp's maximum output is 85 watts. You calculate the 70% off of that. You set the idle dissipation at 70% of 85 watts...not 70% of 120 watts.
  9. 30 watts per tube x4=120watts. The twin reverb is NOT a 120 watt amp and there's your problem. 445V times .047 amps is 21 watts times four tubes is 85 watts. If you have the current at 47 mA then you have the bias set at 100% dissipation at idle. Way too high.. You want to set the bias at 65% to 70% of that figure....Maybe 31mA or there about.
  10. Personally I think a fretboard needs to have a compound radius to play the best. I just don't see how a Plek treatment can achieve this without shaving off some frets to the tang. The way I see it the strings are converging from the bridge to the nut. As such they lie closest against a CONE and not a CYLINDER. Somebody needs to invent a machine that resurfaces the fingerboard to these dimensions and then guitar is refretted.
  11. Does it grind frets or actually rework the fretboard itself? If it's the latter you'll probably have to refret after its done its job. If it's the former I think it would eat up a lot of the guitar's fret life.
  12. I think it would be just easier to travel to various guitar shops every 2 weeks and pickup up the guitars and take them to a shop. No set up. Hell if you got big enough they could just ship you the guitars.
  13. Jesus. If it's just a bridge pulling up, that's a 100 dollar job from and independent luther. Takes maybe an hour. Heat the bridge. Peel it off. Clean off the old glue and clamp/glue back. If you aren't the original owner Martin doesn't owe you anything. Just get your guitar fixed. Good luck with the holes in it.
  14. I'm not going to start my groupie story until this one is finished. It seems to be killing the thread.........
  15. I had a Deacon for a month. Didn't like the thin tone... and the bridge was too hard to modify to improve it. Loved how it looked though...Might have been good through a high gain amp, but I just Ebayed the sucker out of my life.
  16. My Keeley Compressor seems to be a nice clean boost if you leave the "S" down low and up the "L" My Bad Cat 2-tone does it well too on the clean channel.
  17. My personal favorite is a solid spruce pressed top braced with spruce. You get consistancy of thickness all over the top, and the cost is less. A truly carved spruce top is only as good as the guy doing the "carving" I don't really care if the back is laminate or solid pressed maple, but the top has to be solid wood.
