  1. I bought another pair to replace the RCF310's (weight is becoming important to me) and they sound as good to me (the RCF's sound amazing). So now two as backfill/monitors and two as mains. I just ordered the matching sub (TS212S) to replace the Behringer one. I hope to be able to play bass ampless outside with that as I now do indoors. Probably run both outdoors until I feel I need (or just want LOL) two of the TS212S .
  2. Specs compare to the older QSC K12 - nice. I've recently "upgraded" to Alto TS308's ($289) which seem to be clones of the current QSC K8.2 at less than 1/2 the price. I use one pair for mains and one pair for backfill monitors for everyone / "Texas Headphones" for the drummer. Just ordered a TS212S sub as an upgrade for my Behringer B1200D-Pro (might run them both outdoors). Anyways glad to hear you're still beating up speakers for us
  3. I picked up a "renewed" Dell laptop with a Ryzen 5 (4 cores, 8 threads) processor (i7 class) with 8 GB memory and 256GK SSD that kicks arse for $300 a while back. I'd recommend something of those specs unless you are on a really tight budget. I just ordered a 27" quadHD screen (recommended to me as the optimum size for Reaper) and a Logitech M575 trackball. Just need a wireless keyboard now ...
  4. Limiter6 does have a 64bit version and FerricTDS's author just released 64bit beta versions of many of his plugins, hopefully he'll get around to doing FerricTDS soon . In any case I'm moving over to Reaper which can run 32bit plugins in the 64bit version 😲. Also just heard that the next release of Audacity will have a 64bit version for Windows 😲.
  5. Check out Slate Digital's "Fresh Air" https://slatedigital.com/fresh-air/
  6. Oh, and from last year - "if you can't be good be loud" LOL
  7. Almost all radio stations stream these days - I just stream them with my phone. I have Visible mobile (division of Verizon) service with truly unlimited data for $25/mo (well actually one guy got cut off at 40 TB I think? 😲)
  8. I miss Al's speaker reviews . Anyways I'm "upgrading" my super small and loud PA to these QSC K8.2 clones. 2KW peak, 1KW RMS bi-amp'd 8" speakers. I had been using Behringer B108D's and B208D's (anyone know why they still make both?) but I have 4 that need service - I suspect the quick disconnects to the drivers have loosened and cause noise at high volume. I just soldered those in one of my $50/pr studio monitors that were doin the same (Sterling MX3). Right now the system has two Behringer B108D (former mains as the B208D are down) for the drummer's "Texas headphones" / backfill monitors for the rest of the band, two RCF 310's for mains (temporarily replacing the two B108D used for indoor gigs, the RCF used to be only for outdoors), A single Behringer B1200D-PRO sub, and a Yamaha MG12XUK mixer. I normally play bass ampless indoors with this but use an amp outdoors (Town common type gigs). Guitarists run un-miked amps and one also plays keys through his amp (Hotrod Deluxe that I just re-tubed and biased). I rarely do sound for others these days, I'm in six bands (two doing originals and recording albums) so just a bit busy LOL. Only one band has been gigging over last year but the horn band just restarted and has a county fair type gig next month (sound supplied by them ). Anyways, who's still about and breathin'?
  9. Check out lime lights and salt water dimmers 😲 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRe1x2OpEy-1IPuoOg5_tJg
  10. I have a plug-in that can replace the kick with any sample you want - but am getting a good sound with a mic in the kick close to the batter head run through the "Debleeder" plug-in https://wilkinsonaudio.com/products/debleeder . Could probably get the same sound with most any gate that has adjustable parameters including a bandpass filter on the trigger.
  11. Oops, not my mic and I'll not have access to it until Saturday - but checking out pictures on the web it is a D112, they look quite different. With the plague and all, we haven't recorded there since although the drummer and I do rehearse with three bands there now. I did pick up another originals project (less than 2 miles from my house) that has about 20 songs to pick from for their 4th album. We did scratch recordings with a set of CAD mics the drummer owns that worked out OK. I've got 5 active projects now rehearsing 6 nights a week. I may have mentioned it on another thread but I picked up a Zoom L-20 and L-8 this year, weird little mixers that are more live sound compatible than their older "recorders" like the R24 (24 tracks but only 8 inputs).
  12. If I had my druthers I'd just use one of my EV PL33 kick mics - nothin' special but old friends
  13. I did try gating but the snare is SO loud in the kick mic that I didn't have any immediate joy 😕 especially if I have to crank the $#@! out of the ~3k to get any thwack. Anyways its easy enough to get a better track to start with. I have the luxury of ir being a couple more sessions off before I need real tracks - plenty of time to get it right
  14. Yeah - not the first drummer I've run into who's proud of their D12 because of it price more than the sound. I try not to bum them out and just use them live. Recording it's just not working with that placement. Maybe I should stick one of my shiny new M5's in there?
  15. So, when one of you are ""stuck" using one of these often reviled kick mics, how do you use it? For some reason drummers seem to be enamored of putting it just outside or half way in the port. It doesn't seem to pick up enough beater "smack" and too much snare that way?
  16. Personally I look upon listening to solo bass like watching a chimpanzee smoking a cigarette - novel but of limited interest. As the previous post says I much prefer listening to these guys playing slowly and tastefully. I'm really digging Joe Osborne at the moment - when he "steps in front" it's not a bunch of whankada whankada ...
  17. Just stumbled upon this one https://pulsar.audio/smasher . As a bass player I'm particularly interested in 1176 "all in" type plugins .
  18. Some band pages I've created, some defunct bands and some never used: https://www.facebook.com/Bitter-Ice-110967053805407 https://www.facebook.com/The-RockHeads-1409263775832284 https://www.facebook.com/Furious-Squirrel-374067749320057 https://www.facebook.com/T-Rex-Nativity-806302762845885 https://www.facebook.com/Arthritis-952614461524671 https://www.facebook.com/Grenade-Toss-193256804926197
  19. I searched for "free" in this forum and didn't find anything? A couple I have that seem useful are this mastering compresser https://vladgsound.wordpress.com/plugins/limiter6/ and this tape emulator https://www.kvraudio.com/product/ferrictds---tape-dynamics-simulator-by-variety-of-sound . Problem for youse guys might be that these are 32 bit VSTs?
  20. I've been gone for a few months. Is there someplace I can read up on the forum software switch? Looks to be even deader than when I was last here 😭.
  21. Word on the street is that Mom & Pops can't "curate" from Fender or Gibson - they have to accept a mix of desirable and undesirable models and sell a rather unrealistic number or be cut off. That's why we don't see new Fenders and Gibsons in these smaller stores .
  22. If I was you I'd talk to these guys: http://earthworksaudio.com I'd guess an omni like the TC20, TC25,or TC30 would blow your mind . Can't get any more "open" than an omni. Hella expensive though - $480+ You can get 90% there with a cheap reference mic like the Behringer ECM8000 - might be worth checking one of those out first to see if you'd be going in the right direction. Sixty bux LOL.
