amp EL34 - XTC. Look for an older one, pre-2000. Harder driven, way meaner, richer than new ones. Good look finding tubes that can handle a white chassis XTC. 6L6 - 5153. KT88 - Sig:X. Less versatile (a bit less) but way better sounding? Pittbull Ultralead. After that it's preference; which power sections do you prefer, EL34, 6L6, or KT88, etc.? Not very familiar with the Mesa, so no comment. Not familiar at all with the VH4 so no comment, but I'd imagine that would have to be fairly versatile with 4 channels. Those 3 above are the most versatile of the ones I've actually tried out for each type of power amp design, but none of them are my favorite. Of the 3, I'd take the EVH (or, the UL).
