  1. Anyone who mistakes correctmanship for trolling has no business picking up a guitar. You should donate yours to charity. after reading this, I decided that Django was right and I tried to donate my Strat to Goodwill. The clerk at the donation station just laughed and said "I am supposed to take a blues guitar from you?". I am stuck with it now. It's a frigging useless appliance now like my oven.
  2. I think given the intense personal tragedies he's suffered, it's understandable that Mayer might be a little abrasive. I agree. I mean what do any of us know of tragedy? Nothing. I personally look to John Mayer for guidance, wisdom and well, for him to tell me through his music and words, how to live my life. His Twitter feed was like my Bible. Damn conspirators made him disable it.
  3. Probably way more than you know. Possibly every recording guitarist with a Floyd Rose and a humbucker. While I agree EVH was/is influential, his influence is nowhere near as widespread as Hendrix or even Clapton or Beck. Floyd Rose and a humbucker is pretty much limited to a hard rock/metal category. So is his influence still felt there? Possibly. Is Hendrix' influence felt on just about anybody who has picked up an electric guitar since 1967? Probably.
  4. Van Halen influenced Hendrix, but Van Halen drew a lot of his own influence from Jimmy Buffett. However, Buffett took lessons as a kid from Jack White who was in turn, taught by the dude from Jackyll. So I guess, we could safely say that the Jackyll dude is the best rock guitarist of all time. Case closed.
  5. I think EVH is a great guitar player and was influential beyond a doubt. However, to consider him the best would be to discount Jimi Hendrix who had even more influence on guitarists. I think VH's influence was really only one generation of players whereas Hendrix is in the 4th generation and counting. So, my vote is Hendrix as the greatest rock guitarist. However it is all subjective, which I guess is the beauty of it.
