Their version of Black Magic Woman from the same evening: http://soundcloud.com/richard-king/black-magic-woman Enjoy and feel free to comment.
2. Wooden Ships, a CSN&Y cover. This was recorded live on the back deck at Waldo's restaurant in Vero Beach, Fl. 50' to the right was the restaurant, 50' to the left was the Atlantic Ocean. The band, Voodoo, consists of two guitars, bass, drums and a "sit in" third guitar player. It was recorded using a total of 15 inputs through a Presonus Firestudio and a Presonus Digimax FS. Recorded and mixed in Reaper. No overdubs were harmed (or used) in the recording process. http://soundcloud.com/richard-king/wooden-ships More from that night and some other nights going back to 1976 can be found here: http://soundcloud.com/richard-king A video of the band that night (with a different singer):
3. This just proves my theory that the talent that hangs out here is really unbeatable. Great shots there Ken. Congrats on the honor(s). (What am I doing up at 3:15 AM)?
4. There are a couple of programs that I use for deleting pops and clicks from records. One that is fairly automatic is called "Click Repair" (clever name) and can be found here: http://www.clickrepair.net/ The other is called Goldwave. Goldwave has a click fix portion in the program and also allows redrawing the waveform. Goldwave can be found here: http://www.goldwave.com/ I use Click Repair first and if anything still needs looking at I'll go to Goldwave and do some redrawing.
5. I had a similar situation with the fellow in my sig. Contacted my local police and went in to file a complaint. The local detective called the cops up there and spoke to a detective there who paid a visit the next day. He shipped the amp the day after the visit. All went well in the case of my thief. Follow the same steps and hopefully all will work out for you also.
6. It appears that he was quite talented and worked with tons of people in his day. Check out the Wiki page on this guy. Of course, he also had some personal problems, but I think much of the info will be a real surprise to most here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_King
7. Jonathan (no relation) also wrote and produced this song:
8. The problem with "deflation" in general is that people start to put off purchases, waiting for the price of items to drop still lower. This has a negative effect on sales, potentially causing store closings and an increase in unemployment, causing more of the same. Do your duty, go spend some money.
9. By the way, with the way oil prices are going these days I think it's probably time to start considering a "Non Windfall Profits" rebate to the poor oil companies. If it's good to demand a "Windfall Profits Tax" when things are good, why isn't it good to do the opposite when things go the other direction?
10. Come on. It's so easy when you don't agree with someone to accuse them of being blantantly evil or greedy. Do you really believe that all those scientists have no concern for their professional career and integrity? You're right, it is easy to accuse those who don't agree with the "majority" as being in the grasp of the oil companies. This works both ways, you know. I believe that those who have differing opinions have as much, if not more, integrity as those who agree with the "majority".
11. There will always be experts on the fringe of every issue (and most of those claiming climate change is not due in any way due to humans are usually funded by the oil companies) but this is a non issue in most of the worlds universities and think tanks.Universities and think tanks whose funding would be taken away if this is resolved in the "non man made" direction. So long as they can keep this alive they will keep the funding coming in. Resolve the problem with a decision that man has nothing to do with it and the funding goes away, as does Al Gore's reason for being here. The money has to be taken out of BOTH sides of the arguement.
12. http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fullcomment/archive/2008/10/20/lorne-gunter-thirty-years-of-warmer-temperatures-go-poof.aspx In early September, I began noticing a string of news stories about scientists rejecting the orthodoxy on global warming. Actually, it was more like a string of guest columns and long letters to the editor since it is hard for skeptical scientists to get published in the cabal of climate journals now controlled by the Great Sanhedrin of the environmental movement. Still, the number of climate change skeptics is growing rapidly. Because a funny thing is happening to global temperatures -- they're going down, not up. More...
13. Why are these countries, with a much smaller economies, developing these things and we're not?Part (the majority) of the blame goes to the fact that the politicians of America decided to buy the votes of the farmers and the contributions of the farming corporations by subsidising ethanol from corn, a waste if there ever was one. Not only is it a waste of money and resources, but it takes away the incentive to find other alternates that work. I can no longer find a gas station pumping gas here that doesn't have ethanol stickers (contains not more than 10% ethanol) on the pump. I can't even boycott it.
14. Thanks. Even if one doesn't believe that global warming is man-made, there's still so many reasons to do these things...including economics. Yea, but... do you want to buy a house in Vero Beach?
15. Regardless of whether there's climate change that is man-made or not, running cleaner cars, having less toxic emissions, putting less crap in the air, and conserving natural resources and energy are all things that i can get behind and don't consider stupid.Economics.... I am rebuilding a house that was damaged in a hurricane in 2004. I am eventually looking to sell this house after it is put back together. I could have gone with the standard fiberglas bat insulation. I could have gone with your normal, typical paint. I didn't do either. I went with a sprayed on foam insulation at a cost of about 400% of fiberglas bats. Supposedly this will save about 30% on the heating/cooling expenses per year. The required size of the air conditioner unit went from 4800 BTU to 2400 BTU. All interior paint will be non toxic zero VOC paint http://www.mythicpaint.com/. My feeling on "Man Made" global warming is that it is an invention of man and is used by people like Gore to increase their wealth. I don't believe that he even believes in the "fact". If he did he wouldn't live as he does. I did the above for economic reasons and to add to the value of the house and, hopefully, make the house more desirable to the typical buyer. I didn't do it to avoid "man made" global warming. When alternative fuels become economically feasible for a car, I will make the jump there also. Anyone want to buy a newly rebuilt, efficient, pool house in Vero Beach, Fl? It's three blocks to the ocean and 1/2 block to the river.
16. Post something that you did with the Firestudio so we can listen. I just got one but haven't done anything with it yet.
17. Can an old geezer wake up this thread and get in on this? This is from my first session with my brand new Tascam 80-8 in about 1976 or so. For you youngsters, an 80-8 is an analog 8 track recorder. I picked up the machine the day before this session, graduating from a history of four track. What a relief. These guys did an album and gave me quite the workout considering everything. The band was from Chile and spoke broken English and I spoke no Spanish. This is all analog, no digits were harmed in the making of this music. "Talking With My Drums" http://media.putfile.com/Talking-With-My-Drums This one is from about a year later and was done as a spoof to a songwriting contest that was sponsored by KQRS, the most popular local radio station at the time. The 12 winners selected in the contest would be pressed on an album that was released to all the local record stores. This one, a spoof of the contest, ended up on the album. A call it a "tender teenage love ballad". It is titled "That's What I Said", for obvious reasons. All analog again. http://media.putfile.com/Thats-What-I-Said-67 This was done after I sold my studio stuff and was working for a pro audio business (about 1980 or so). I always was the one who played with all the new toys when they first came in. I have to admit that I did, in fact, harm some digits in recording this one. While the song went down on analog tape, I did use a new, at the time, Klark Teknik digital processor for all of the effects. This was recorded in the showroom of the pro audio store on a few Sunday afternoons. Sorry about the overload in spots. "One Winter's Day on a New York Subway". http://media.putfile.com/One-Winters-Day-on-a-New-York-Subway
