  1. Call me a kid or whatever you like..but I've always liked Spongebob Squarepants since I was a kid. I'm really thinking of getting this because how often do you come across a guitar as cool as this? However, I can't seem to find the specs of this guitar. Does anyone know what wood the body is made of? The neck looks like maple to me. Also, I'm just getting opinions here, how good/crappy do you think this guitar would sound if I would to install an active metal pickup and tuned it to drop C or something? Here's what I could find on their European distributor site:
  2. aclarke, good point re foam. I might just use a 100% pure cotton polishing cloth or unbleached paper under the strings. Either is cheap and easy to do. I wouldn't use foam. Paper is the way to go; unbleached, like you said. Try to find some acid/bleach free artists paper - any artist supply store should have it. Don't worry too much about tuning down - necks are designed to handle string pressure without problems. Coat metal parts (pickguard screws, etc) lightly in a safe oil. If it was me, I'd give the pots and switches a good spray of contact cleaner before I left, and I'd be prepared to do the same again when I got back. Enjoy your travels!
  3. My first proper guitar was an American strat. I played on pawn shop nylon strings for 2 years, then got a cheap acoustic that I played for 4 years. When I was 19, I got the strat.

Visible filler used for the inlays I've seen 3,000 dollar guitars with visible filler used for the inlays. Don't worry about it, you got a great deal. Congrats.
