  1. honestly, it could just be time you need to readapt. i blew my hearing flying up to NYC with a head cold, literally made me dear except LF for a day and then only slowly came back. landing was the worst pain i have ever had in my ears. aynway, NEVER fly with a headcold. not that it applies to this particular situation. sucks to have your hearing go when doing audio... like breaking your writing hand as some author.
  2. im kinda partial to a crown CM700 over a SM57 for THAT sound. combine it with any ribbon and you have tone deluxe at mixdown.
  3. just slap a 57 on the speaker [pick one of them] and move it around until you get the balance of highs and lows. also, if you like the direct sound, so a split and grab the DI on the way in [clean] and run it through something like guitar rig and combine that with your amp'd sound.
  4. rhythm is easy to hear if its on or off. its called in teh pocket or not. pitch on the other hand, i come across others who can hear WAY better than i even as low as a semitone off... i just pass it as expression, but i have fixed a note here or there for the few who can hear it and cant live w/o it fixed. i dont know what can "train" you for it however.... i usually go by my own personal judgement of if it sounds good or not.
  5. It does reduce the room, but to say it takes it completely out of the picture is a big presumptuous. its does enough to be true to my comment. you said completely, i only said essentially. symantics i know, but it does kill the room more than a mic sitting back 3' [opposed to 1" off the cone]... and a lot of that nice tone is the amp lighting up the room its in.
  6. by close micing, you essentially take the room out the picture... stick your ear right up to teh grill and listen. put a mic back where the guitarist usually stands and there will be a major "bloom" difference. i like a combination of both, but it also depends on the sound you are going for. also WHERE you put a mic up close, how its oriented on the grille, centers or tot he side, on axis or off axis. its also why ribbons [with a F8 pattern] are helpful because they do caputre the backside room of the amp. sticking it up close is usually for isolation to OTHER sounds in the room.
  7. no you cant... people are going to do what they want. if they are going to be late, they are going to be late. you can charge from the booked time and not arrival time which is what i do for people so that kind of elimates any issue there notifying them before hand so they know and its not some suprise. still, blaming others for what you claim as a personal weakness? =LAME. i would say his weakness is definately his arrogance and egotism. im sure he has many more, but those are two pretty big and important ones.
  8. thats still not a weakness of YOUR character... thats OTHERS.
  9. good lord, you have a 20' telephone pole up your ass. thats your weakest thing? blaming OTHER PEOPLE for being late? thats lame. not weak.... seriously, you sound like a douchebag no one would want to record with in the first place with that post.
  10. SPDIF is defintately spid-if for me... s-p-d-i-f is far too much. never thought about DAW. i think i spell that out.
  11. im weak in the knees... right now im weak shuffling between video editors like premiere/ae to nuendo and not having to export the audio to keep it in sync, would love to know how to keep edits in tact and move between the two.
  12. i have a small room that sounds AMAZING, so much so i have contemplated sampling it for convoverbs. but i agree with ethan, as i LOVE to record vox dry as they can be. doesnt matter what room really im in, i even make this glorious sounding room dry as can be around the mic [doesnt mean i dont set up a "wet" mic]
  13. anyone who wants to send me any of these products for review is more than welcome to i have a LOAD of voice over work to do over the next little bit.
  14. you cant compare the two of them like that... its TWICE the size. you can see the tweeter peeking out over the top of the SE version on the one test. ultimately these are two different products. the real traps version not being as elegant in size, but bigger area to dampen overall... it also is more visually consuming for the person singing into it whereas the SE might excel with being less obtrusive.
  15. that is a pretty interesting design as well. it seems we have a new trend here of product line. the real traps seems like a good deal at $249 because like someone said above you can use it on amps and such... more flexability i think. they should call these things 'nanogobos'. im trademarking that. copyright 2007. aside from the obvious vocal use, i can definately see creative use of all the products like this that i have seen. im not sure about the price of them for said creativity...
  16. wow, and im just using a few pipes for a frame and a down mattress pad. i used to use a Futon pad but that was too bulky and heavy.
  17. wow, i had the popcorn popped... thinking this was started today or this week. what a twist of an ending.
  18. what is your time worth to you? just the time spent researching parts is worth a grand... or you havent REALLY done your research. nevermind assembling and installing/tweaking everything.
  19. thanks, i saved that list to see what i havent done to XP yet. that was nice and long. i dont know if it actaully does much however [aside from that SUN {censored}... hate that crap, although i have had to put it on my machien for something else,i tried to avoid JAVA... but MS gave up in its vJava] and yeah, QT stinks! but things like altiverb want it, and i need it for other video applications as well so im stuck having to have that on my machine as well. but right now, im running a full multimedia workstation and its pretty rock solid and i dont see performace hits when doing audio since i havle only done a few tweaks on this machine and didnt totally optimize XPpro on it. i think my favorite tweak is the start delay, love the fast subwindows.... so i go for speed on the OS working, but im guilty of cleartype... just like to look at it over w/o it. i have been pretty amazed by this machine so far, and its only a 2.4 c2d. just bought a WD 500GB HD today for $149 and loaded all my samples onto it. i see greater results in optimizing your PC for recording, more than optimizing XP.
  20. nope, you want the business verison. it doesnt have the RAM cap that HOME has and definately not home premium which includes MCE [fully not needed]. the business is akin to XPpro. fwiw, microsoft [at least im betas] kept the OS stripped of extras aside from IExplorer [which is built into the core anyway], but things like messenger and meeting are download/install after coreOS install kind of things. i have been running Ultimate betas. the Aero interface really depends more on the GPU rather than the CPU now that they unloaded it onto the GPU, which they claim some 89% of crashes occured from the GUI being on the CPU load. this is supposed to severely lower that threat. i really didnt notice much of a problem with AERO over the old GUI, or even quasiAERO [w/o the cool transparency]... but MOTU quit supporting my PCI card so i dont have drivers for it to use with Vista [probably never will but am upgrading to their PCIe card anyway here in a bit]. but definately something im going to test out using vs not using and any hits on performance... and see if MS lives up to what they say in regards to pulling it off the CPU load. however, with modern computers... at least the ones we are building now, the audio workstation optimization is becoming far less important than on earlier machines. im running a full multimedia machine and encountering very little problems in stability or lack of power with it, and im running internet, design apps, video apps, and audio apps... most times in conjunction with each other [oh and some games as well ]. the biggest development in all of this is the jump from the 4GB RAM limit [which is really only 3.75GBish]... of course we will have to have mobos that can handle it as well as larger RAM chipsets. the mobos we use can handle 8GB, but only access 4GB under XP. 2GB RAM chips are expensive right now and usually 1GB DDR2 pairs are the norm. what eats heaviest into this is obviously VSTi's... plugins are pretty effecient in comparison. i can basically run 96 Waves SSL plugs + WavesIR, like a PSP82 delay, some dual mono verbs, some wideners, and then like PSP MAsterQ>SSL comp>Izotope Ozone3 on the mix buss as well. so there is a WavesSSL "board" for ya in your DAW.
  21. i find their OS doc/seraches pretty decent, although sometimes roundabout... sometimes not useful at all, others bootsaving.
