  1. I can't say if the Internet was better in the 70s, but there were definitely fewer flamewars and trolls. Of course, back then, everybody was more open minded, guitarists had skills and women cared, and of course, as you point out, music was much better.

And of course only one person could get on the internet at a time back then.

  2. I blame the mods. They do nothing when people put up obvious troll threads. For a forum to thrive and be useful, the mods gotta do their thing. They're not.

If you want heavy-handed mods go to TGP. I don't come here for the troll threads but I enjoy HC's level of balance.

I agree with the OP's sentiment to an extent. But the problem resolves itself automatically for me because I don't engage in threads I don't care about. Also, the more I subscribe to threads the less I care about what's on the first page.

  3. my only gripe about them is that after a few shows or rehearsals they lose their sharp edge.

Yeah, I hate that too. And I thought Ultex was the toughest stuff around. Bet in 5 years they'll have something the same thickness/flex that doesn't wear or break.

  4. Scolfax - a while back you told us about how much you liked the Dunlop Ultex Sharps. I went and checked them out and fell in love. I'm not interested in anything else. Wondering if you lost love for them or are just experimenting?

The sharps are great! They're like a magnet for strings. Which is awesome for leads but I eventually realized that pointed picks didn't feel right to me for rhythm. Have you noticed that at all or are you completely used to them?

Yeah, I'm always experimenting with picks. It's cheap and fun.

  5. ...I don't think he is top 50 even...

Oh come on! Be honest, he's not in the top 50 rock guitarists of all time?!?! Edward Van Halen?? Seriously?? I mean really and truly his worst enemy would put him in the top 5 without hesitation. So would your mom, ask her. (I'm not saying this as a joke, I would like you to please ask your mother if Eddie Van Halen would be in her personal list of the top 50 rock guitarists of all time)
