    By Guest |

Sonic Foundry, Inc. announces the debut of its new XFX series of audio effect plug-ins. The XFX series will operate with any program that fully supports DirectX Audio Plug-Ins, including Sonic Foundry's award-winning Sound Forge 4.0. XFX I Plug-in Pack (MSRP $249), the first collection in the series, debuted at the Audio Engineering Society Convention at New York's Javits Convention Center, September 26-29.

The XFX 1 Plug-in Pack CD-ROM includes native versions for Windows NT-compatible systems (Pentium and Alpha), and Windows 95. Real-time previewing of all effects provides instant feedback, and optimizes editing time.

Says Sonic Foundry Vice President of Sales and Marketing Roy Elkins, "With XFX users can easily and inexpensively add specific features to their audio editing systems. And, the compatibility of XFX with any program that fully supports DirectX Audio provides access to users of various host editors."

XFX 1 Plug-in Pack includes six discrete plug-ins:

Reverb - with 19 different reverb types for high-quality simulation of a variety of acoustical spaces.

Time Compress/Expand - Allows for up to 50% compression and 500% expansion of original material. Adjusts tempo and audio length without affecting pitch.

Multi-Tap Delay - For complex echo patterns and chorusing effects. Up to eight discrete taps can be set with variable amplitude, pan and delay time.

Chorus - Controls modulation depth, frequency and feedback for lush, chorused tones. Three chorus depths available. Variable low-pass filter and chorus phase reversal provide added flexibility.

Pitch Shift - Adjusts pitch +/- 50 semitones (over four octaves) or +/- 12 semi-tones without affecting tempo or duration.

Simple Delay - Echo effects range from subtle timbral changes to vast echo chambers. Available delay times - one millisecond to five seconds; feedback decay times up to 20 seconds.

Sonic Foundry develops and markets the leading sound editing application on the Windows platform. The company's award-winning audio editor, Sound Forge, contains the most extensive list of audio processing tools available on the PC, and is extendible with a full line of proprietary and DirectX Audio Plug-Ins.
