Cakewalk, the leading provider of music and sound creation software, today announced Cakewalk Overture for Windows & Mac OS, a dual-platform version of its award-winning music notation software. Previously, Overture was available only for the Macintosh. The release makes this easy to use notation software available on more than 95%* of the world's personal computers.

"Our goal is to provide all composers with professional music notation software that's as easy to use as a word processor," said Jim Rippie, product manager for Overture, Cakewalk. "The original Overture for the Macintosh solved the ease-of-use objective. The new Overture for Windows and Mac OS makes this ease-of-use available to nearly everyone with a personal computer."

Overture enables users to compose, arrange, and publish professional music scores easily. Its combination of usability and high-quality output makes it the ideal solution for professional and novice users alike; including studio musicians, composers, music educators, ensembles, bands and choirs.

With Overture, users can edit performance parameters like note duration, attack times, key velocity, pitch bend, controllers and program changes without leaving the notation environment. It offers MIDI playback of all dynamics, repeats and endings. Plus its Piano Roll view enables users to edit a performance graphically, adding nuances not possible with other notation software.

"Best of all, Overture is from Cakewalk. So users know that it's backed by a support organization that is technically knowledgeable, musically sophisticated, and truly concerned about customer satisfaction," said Rippie.

    Delivery On Cross-Platform Strategy

With this product introduction, Cakewalk delivers on its stated strategy to stabilize and expand the market for notation software, announced in May, 1998. The strategy included plans to provide extensive technical support to users of Overture for the Macintosh, already available, plus a plan to introduce Cakewalk Overture for Windows & Mac OS in July, 1998.

    Pricing and Availability

The estimated street price of Overture is $269 (U.S.) and it will be available in the summer of 1998.
