  • NemeSys Puts GigaSampler in a Rack

    By Guest |

NemeSys Music Technology, Inc. today will demonstrate a digital sampling system with an unprecedented 40-gigabyte sampling capacity and with up to 512 voices of polyphony. Housed in a single 5U rack mounted chassis, the new sampler has surpassed the capabilities of all previous samplers by a huge margin and set a new benchmark for performance and musical creativity.

Starting with the award winning version 1.5 GigaSampler technology coupled with the Patented EndlessWave TM technology of Conexant (formerly Rockwell Semiconductor Systems), the new system employs Nemesys's new Voice Expansion Plug-In software and system configuration services for realization.

The fully configured system boasts 40 gigabytes of sampling (expandable to 72.8 gigabytes), 512 voices (of which 100% are hard disk based, instantly playable, and up to 4-gigabytes in size each), 64 MIDI channels, and 48 output channels of 20-bit or 24-bit audio.

"To put things into perspective, you can have over 160 times the sampling capacity of any other sampler without having to restrict any one of the 512 voices to a small, RAM-based memory footprint," said Jim Van Buskirk, President and co-founder of NemeSys Music Technology, Incorporated. "Coupled with four times the polyphony of other samplers, there is no longer any need for music scoring professionals to fill rooms with outdated, proprietary samplers."

NemeSys is offering its expertise in system design to configure hardware and software for GigaSampler V1.5 customers to enable the full potential of the technology. As an example, at NAMM NemeSys is exhibiting the industry's most powerful sampling system in booth #1515 in the West Hall, the NCS4 series with configuration options of 512, 384, or 256 voice polyphony.

"Juggling numerous sampler configurations and having to spend valuable production time waiting for my sampler to load is a thing of the past," said Dave Govett, Chief Composer at NemeSys. "Now I spend my time thinking about music instead of worrying about how to get everything playing together over multiple passes."

Having the largest sampling capacity of any commercially available sampler, the GigaSampler now has many sound quality and time saving advantages that add production value and creativity to music and sound effect productions from industry leading composers. "GigaSampler is a REAL innovation compared to everything else out there. I would not have made my latest deadline if it weren't for this tool", said Scott Gilman, L.A. based composer for prime time television series '7 Days' on UPN (Paramount Television). "Now with the multi-outputs and features in the new version (vl.5), GigaSampler is truly unmatched".

Reviews of the new version are equally impressive. "We could write a six page review of the piano alone, but we only have the space to say that's it's absolutely breathtaking. The note-on response is very tight and there's no noticeable audio delays. Editing facilities far surpass anything we have seen before and includes the ability to cross fade between velocity layers and map controllers to any parameter. This is a monster system that will no doubt find a good home in studios all around the world", said UK reviewer Steve Helstrip for Computer Music Magazine.

Riding the trend from limited function dedicated hardware to high-end workstation software, the GigaSampler software poses utmost reliability in professional audio production facilities. "I've been using it (GigaSampler) for 12 hours a day for about 30 days now, and it has been rock solid. I'm a MAC user, so I dedicate a (Pentium II) PC to GigaSampler. Even with the cost of the computer figured in, GigaSampler is still much more cost effective than high end dedicated samplers", Gilman said.

GigaSarnpler is the first digital sampler to stream samples real-time directly from the hard disk when played from a keyboard controller or another MIDI device. Huge instruments can be loaded in seconds, rather than minutes. By leveraging the hard disk to playback instruments, rather than using RAM as in conventional samplers, GigaSampler is capable of delivering pristine and comprehensive replications of world class instruments. Traditional techniques for compressing samples like looping, although supported, are no longer needed.
